00:02 for the great Manila programs. 00:04 But with the pandemic, 00:05 John Carter brings this teaching 00:08 on the occult from his studio in Los Angeles. 00:12 John Carter will now bring out into the open, 00:15 the secretive and hidden world of the occult. 00:23 Hi friend, I'm John Carter. 00:25 Today we're talking 00:26 about the strange world of the occult. 00:29 I want to give a special welcome 00:30 to our viewers in the great land of India. 00:34 And I'll have some special things 00:35 to say to you 00:37 as we move along in the program today. 00:39 But firstly, 00:41 I want to take you back 00:42 to my boyhood days in Australia, 00:46 when I grew up in the city of Brisbane. 00:50 When I was a teenager of 16 years of age, 00:53 and as they used to say in those days, 00:56 kicking over the traces, 00:59 that's what city horses used to do. 01:01 But when I was 16 years of age 01:04 and rebelling against the government 01:05 and the church and my parents and everybody else, 01:09 my mates and I decided 01:11 one night to go along to a seance. 01:14 You know what a seance is, don't you? 01:17 A seance is when you try to contact 01:21 the spirits of the dead. 01:24 This is something 01:25 only a silly 16-year old boy would do, 01:29 I would think. 01:31 And so we tried to go along to that seance, 01:33 but we lost our way, and we couldn't get there. 01:37 But the thoughts of the spirits were running through my mind. 01:42 As I went home that night, 01:45 ours was a new home in a new development, 01:48 and lots of the homes are still being built, 01:51 and most of the homes, of course, were vacant. 01:56 When I got into my house late at night, about 11:30. 02:01 In those days 11:30 was very, very late 02:07 for a 16-year-old boy growing up in Australia. 02:12 Went to the bathroom, 02:14 brush my teeth, went and got into bed. 02:19 My father had put a big lock on the back door. 02:24 It wasn't just the ordinary sort of lock 02:27 that the house came with, but it was a big bolt. 02:32 Because my father was afraid 02:34 that there may be people going around, 02:37 breaking into these houses that were not yet finished. 02:41 He was a little bit nervous, 02:42 so he puts this big bolt on the back door. 02:45 I get into bed 02:49 and I feel and I hear the wind 02:52 blowing through the house. 02:55 I get up 02:57 and the back door is blowing in the wind, 03:00 and the lock is still in its place. 03:05 This happens all through the night. 03:08 I hear my father getting out of bed. 03:10 He goes and he locks the door. 03:12 And in the morning at breakfast, 03:13 he says to us all, to my mother and to me, 03:17 "Something strange is happening in this house." 03:21 And my mother says, "What do you mean?" 03:25 "Well, the back door that was bolted 03:27 kept opening during the night by itself." 03:32 And then my mother drops the bombshell and she says, 03:35 "It's almost as though we have a sympathizer 03:40 with the evil spirits." 03:42 And then I confessed. 03:46 It made me start to think 03:47 there was something in it that was true 03:50 about the existence of evil spirits. 03:56 Then later on when I was a young pastor, 03:59 we were living in a place north of Sydney 04:02 by the name of Woy Woy. 04:05 There was a lady coming to the meetings 04:07 and she said to me, 04:08 "Can you come because I'm having 04:10 terrible, terrible things happen in my house." 04:14 And so with a dear friend of mine, 04:16 Dr. John Hammond, we went to her house, 04:20 and she told us the story. 04:23 As soon as we went into the house, 04:26 the hair on the back of my neck stood up. 04:31 And then she told me of the terrible things, 04:34 how the curtain rods would fly around the room, 04:37 and how at night, 04:39 a being like a man would get into bed with her 04:43 and seize her by the throat. 04:47 And then she told me 04:49 how she had left the faith of the Bible, 04:52 and she had become involved 04:54 in the sinister world 04:58 of the occult. 05:02 My friend, it happens. 05:06 That woman had opened the door and the spirits had come in 05:12 by my going to seance so trying to in Brisbane, 05:16 I had opened the locked door. 05:22 Today, we're going to talk about the occult. 05:26 We're going to talk 05:27 about the unseen world of unclean spirits. 05:33 Demons from the bottomless pit. 05:36 Are you with me today? 05:38 Are you listening? 05:40 I've got some amazing things to tell you today. 05:44 And I want to say 05:46 a very special welcome to all of you, 05:48 but especially to my friends in India, 05:52 which is filled, they believe, with spirits. 05:57 I'm going to tell you now the story of Kings Saul, 06:01 the witch of Endor and the dead Prophet Samuel. 06:07 I'm going to take my Bible. 06:09 And I'm going to turn over here. 06:11 Let me see, give me a minute, to 1 Samuel 28:3. 06:18 And if you've got a Bible, get it and notice it with me. 06:22 1 Samuel 28:3, 06:24 "Now Samuel had died, 06:29 and all Israel had lamented for him 06:31 and buried him in Ramah, in his own city. 06:36 And Saul, that's the king, 06:38 had put away the mediums 06:40 and the spiritists out of the land." 06:43 Now we have a number of truths here, 06:46 my friend. 06:47 Samuel was dead, and if he's dead, he's dead. 06:52 And the Bible tells us that the king of Israel, 06:56 as the leader of the nation 06:58 had abolished the mediums and the spiritists. 07:03 And you say to me, 07:04 why would the king ever do such a thing? 07:06 Because, my friend, 07:08 the mediums and the spiritists 07:10 belong to the sinister world of the occult. 07:16 Now I want you to notice something very plainly. 07:20 The Bible says, now please listen to me. 07:23 The Bible says, the prophet is dead. 07:27 Did you get that? The prophet is dead. 07:30 And the Bible also says that the dead are sleeping, 07:34 and they cannot be contacted. 07:37 We cannot contact them and they cannot contact us. 07:42 Are you listening to me? 07:44 So the prophet is dead. 07:48 Don't forget it. 07:49 Now I'm going to come over here to the words of Christ. 07:53 Over here to John 11:11 07:59 and 14 08:01 which talks about the death of a very, very good man. 08:06 His name is Lazarus. 08:09 And like the Prophet Samuel, Lazarus is dead. 08:14 And Jesus talks about the state of the dead. 08:19 Now, verse 11, John 11, 08:22 "These things He said, 08:24 and after that He said to them, 08:26 'Our friend Lazarus sleeps, 08:30 but I go that I may wake him up.'" 08:32 He says, he's sleeping. 08:36 And verse 14, 08:37 "Then Jesus said to them plainly, 08:40 'Lazarus is dead.'" 08:41 What's so hard about this? 08:44 It fails me to understand what is hard about this. 08:48 Jesus said, "Lazarus is sleeping. 08:51 Lazarus is dead." 08:53 Therefore, the dead are sleeping. 08:56 That's what Jesus said. 08:58 Now you're going to say to me, 08:59 this goes against all the preachers 09:01 in North America, 09:02 all the preachers around the world, 09:04 they say the dead are very much awake. 09:07 Well, let me tell you something with all respects, 09:10 I would prefer to believe the words of Christ. 09:14 The Bible says, Lazarus is sleeping. 09:18 Lazarus is dead. 09:20 So I'm wanting to tell you a great truth today 09:24 and that is this, 09:25 that the dead are not conscious, 09:27 but the dead are sleeping, 09:30 awaiting the resurrection. 09:36 There was a little boy who lost his daddy. 09:41 And he was heartbroken with his mommy. 09:44 He went to his mommy and he said, 09:46 "Where is daddy? 09:48 What's going to happen to daddy?" 09:50 And she said to him and she was a believer. 09:53 She believed in Christ, and she believed in the Bible. 09:57 She said, "You know, Jimmy, when you have played all day, 10:03 you get so, so very tired. 10:07 You've been playing out in the sun, 10:09 it's summertime, the good old summertime. 10:12 And then I call you in for dinner. 10:15 And when you used to come in for dinner, 10:18 we're talking about when daddy was alive, 10:21 you'd sit at the table. 10:23 And as we had dinner together, you would be nodding off. 10:29 And soon you were just going to sleep 10:31 and your daddy would pick you up 10:33 and he'd carry you into the bedroom. 10:36 He'd put your pajamas on, and you would be sound asleep. 10:40 You would be unconscious until there was a new day 10:47 and the sun was streaming through the windows." 10:54 She said, "Your daddy, your daddy is sleeping." 11:00 But the day is coming 11:01 when Jesus is going to come back 11:03 and the sun is going to be streaming 11:07 through the windows. 11:09 I want you to know this, my friend, 11:11 death is not the end. 11:13 Are you listening to me? 11:14 I want you to know this, death is not the end. 11:18 The Bible says Lazarus is dead. 11:21 Lazarus is sleeping. 11:22 So I hope we have established this truth 11:25 that the Prophet Samuel was dead and therefore, 11:28 the Prophet Samuel was sleeping. 11:32 Now we come back to 1 Samuel 28:3, 11:37 "Now Samuel had died, 11:40 and all Israel had lamented for him 11:44 and buried him in Ramah, in his own city. 11:48 And Saul had put the mediums and the spiritists 11:51 out of the land." 11:52 Because the mediums and the spiritists 11:55 belonged to the sinister world of the occult. 11:59 But the text says he's dead. 12:03 Samuel is dead, therefore Samuel is sleeping. 12:07 Therefore Samuel is unconscious. 12:10 And even though this is politically incorrect, 12:13 I'm going to give it to you 12:15 straight as I can give it to you. 12:17 Here is the great major truth. 12:19 The dead cannot be contacted. 12:22 Hey, are you listening to me? 12:24 My friends in India, are you listening to me? 12:27 My friends in Australia, are you listening to me? 12:30 My friends in Great Britain, are you listening to me? 12:33 The Bible says the dead cannot be contacted. 12:37 Now, 12:39 mediums and spiritists were banned in Israel. 12:44 Why? 12:45 Let me tell it to you again, 12:47 because they belong to the evil sinister world 12:50 of the occult. 12:51 And if you're going to a medium or a spiritist, 12:55 you are playing with the devil. 13:00 You hear me? 13:03 Yes, there are mediums and spiritists today, 13:06 people think they're contacting their dead loved ones. 13:09 There are people playing around with Ouija boards. 13:16 Now let's get back to the story of Samuel. 13:20 Because King Saul is in awful, awful trouble. 13:26 He's turned away from God. 13:30 And in his desperation, 13:32 he goes along 13:34 and he consults a medium or a spiritist. 13:41 You know, curiosity killed the cat. 13:43 It almost killed me in Brisbane, 13:46 when we were off to see a spiritist. 13:50 But now the king of Israel, my friend, 13:53 because he has so much pain 13:56 and so much anguish and so much despair, 14:02 he goes to see a medium. 14:07 I read verse 7 and 8, verse 7 and 8, 14:12 "Then Saul said to his servants, 14:14 'Find me a woman who is a medium, 14:17 that I may go to her and inquire of her.' 14:21 And his servants said to him, 14:22 'In fact, there is a woman who is a medium at En Dor.' 14:27 So Saul disguised himself and put on other clothes, 14:30 and he went, and two men with him, 14:33 and they came to the woman by night. 14:36 And he said, 14:38 'Please conduct a seance for me, 14:40 and bring up for me the one I shall name to you.'" 14:44 Now, listen to me. 14:47 I'm totally, perfectly aware 14:50 that there are multitudes of people in Great Britain, 14:53 in Australia and in America 14:56 in their despair 14:58 are going to see mediums and spiritists 15:03 because they want a message from the dead, 15:06 they want a message of hope. 15:09 Have you ever been? 15:10 If you have, my friend, you're playing with the devil, 15:12 I'm telling you. 15:14 Now we're going to read, 15:15 now let me see now verse 11 and 12, 15:19 I think. 15:21 So there he is with the woman. 15:23 "Then the woman said, 15:25 'Whom shall I bring up for you?' 15:28 And he said, 'Bring up Samuel for me.' 15:33 When the woman saw Samuel, 15:35 she cried out with a loud voice. 15:37 And the woman spoke to Saul, saying, 15:39 'Why have you deceived me? 15:43 For you are Saul!'" 15:46 There he is, the king of Israel. 15:50 He's with a spiritist. 15:53 The king of Israel 15:54 who should have been a follower of God, 15:56 he says, "I'm so desperate, 15:58 God is not talking to me. 16:00 I want to talk to Samuel because he's a prophet." 16:04 And so the woman brings up an apparition, 16:09 a thing that is like the prophet. 16:12 Now if you notice, verse 11 and 12, Let me see, 16:19 I think no, 13 and 14, 16:23 verse 13, for a start. 16:27 "The king said to her, 'Do not be afraid. 16:32 What did you see?' 16:34 The woman said to Saul, 16:36 'I saw a spirit 16:40 ascending out of the earth.'" 16:43 Now it's apparent 16:45 that the king of this state hasn't seen this thing. 16:50 But in these seance chamber, the witch brings up a being, 16:57 it is a spirit being. 17:02 This leads to the doom and the damnation of the king. 17:06 Now, verse 14 and 15 of the same chapter, 17:12 dear friends and gentle hearts, look at the text. 17:16 So he said to her, 17:18 this is the king of Israel talking. 17:19 "He said to her, 'What is his form?' 17:23 And she said, 17:24 'An old man is coming up, 17:28 and he is covered with a mantle.' 17:32 And Saul perceived that it was Samuel, 17:35 and he stooped with his face to the ground 17:40 and bowed down.'" 17:42 And I think we'll have verse 15 also. 17:47 "Now Samuel said to Saul, 17:48 'Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?' 17:53 And Saul answered, 17:54 'I am deeply distressed, 17:56 for the Philistines make war against me, 18:00 and God has departed from me, does not answer me anymore, 18:04 neither by prophets nor by dreams. 18:07 Therefore I have called you, 18:09 that you should reveal to me what I should do.'" 18:14 Now, listen, please. 18:16 We've got to get this clear in our minds. 18:21 This being doesn't come down from heaven. 18:24 Now most of the theologians 18:26 and most of the preachers will tell you 18:28 that the dead go up to heaven, 18:30 so Samuel ought to be up in heaven. 18:32 Is that plain or is it not plain? 18:35 Of course, it's plain. 18:36 But this creature doesn't come down from glory. 18:41 This being comes up from the bottomless pit, 18:47 and so this is not the Prophet Samuel. 18:50 And when this being first manifests himself, 18:54 the king has not seen it, 18:56 but he perceives with his mind 18:59 that this is the prophet of God himself. 19:03 What a deception. 19:07 And the so-called Prophet Samuel, 19:09 who was actually a demon in disguise. 19:14 Did you get this, a demon in disguise. 19:18 This is not the Prophet Samuel. 19:20 This is indeed, my friend, wait for it, 19:24 this is a masquerading spirit 19:29 from the underworld, 19:33 but the king is taken in, 19:35 just like many people are being taken in today, 19:38 in America, in Australia, 19:40 in Great Britain around the world, 19:42 and especially in parts of the Orient, 19:48 where they think they're actually speaking 19:50 to the spirits of their dead ones. 19:53 They think they're talking to the people 19:56 they love with all their hearts, 19:58 and they're expecting a message from God, 20:01 but no. 20:02 It is indeed a being that has come 20:06 from the recesses of the bottomless pit, 20:11 it has come from hell. 20:15 And so the king talks to this being. 20:19 So let me make this very, very plain to you, 20:23 dear friends and gentle people, 20:24 I want to make this plain if I can. 20:27 I tell you, 20:28 this is not the prophet of God who is dead. 20:31 Remember what Jesus said, 20:32 "Lazarus is sleeping, Lazarus is dead." 20:35 When are we going to follow the words of Christ? 20:38 When are we going to follow the scriptures? 20:41 Jesus said to them, 20:42 "Lazarus is sleeping, Lazarus is dead." 20:45 So what about Samuel? 20:47 Samuel is sleeping, Samuel is dead. 20:51 And a sleeping man is unconscious. 20:54 You can't communicate with the sleeping man. 20:58 This prophet is dead. 21:00 This prophet is dead, 21:01 awaiting the great resurrection. 21:05 But then this being that is masquerading 21:08 as the dead prophet brings a message of doom 21:13 to King Saul. 21:16 Now I want you to notice a text over here, 21:19 dear hearts and gentle people. 21:22 2 Corinthians Chapter 11 21:27 and I got 1 Corinthians, 21:30 I'm getting hard, 21:31 2 Corinthians 21:33 11:14, 21:38 and it says, 21:40 "And no wonder! 21:44 Satan himself transforms himself 21:48 into an angel of light." 21:52 The word of the Lord by the great Apostle Paul. 21:56 Now, my friends, I just want you to hear me. 22:00 If you could see the devil today, 22:02 he would not be a hideous creature. 22:05 He would be the most perfect, the most beautiful being 22:09 that you would ever seen. 22:11 He would be clothed with splendor and glory. 22:15 He would have a fascinating personality. 22:19 He would have such a charismatic personality, 22:23 that you will just hang on his words. 22:27 He would be the greatest of all deceivers. 22:31 Now, listen to me. 22:32 I don't want you to forget this. 22:34 Everybody listening. 22:35 The Bible tells me that evil spirits, 22:40 is anybody listening? 22:42 The Bible tells me, 22:44 would you just open up your ears, 22:46 my friend, the Bible tells me, 22:49 the Word of God tells me 22:52 that the devil and his hosts of evil angels, 22:58 evil spirits can impersonate the dead. 23:04 So if you think 23:05 you're going to a seance chamber, 23:07 and you're talking to your beloved dead, 23:10 I want you to know, 23:11 you are being deceived by an evil spirit. 23:17 This is the word of the Lord. 23:21 And so Samuel, hey, this is not Samuel. 23:26 This is an evil spirit, 23:30 and he is deceiving the king of Israel. 23:34 And the message he gets from this demon 23:36 is so catastrophic 23:39 that the king falls down prostate. 23:42 Now, 1 Samuel 28:20 23:48 and then 24 and 25. 23:51 It says after this encounter with this demon, 23:56 "Immediately Saul fell full length on the ground, 23:59 and was dreadfully afraid," 24:01 you will be afraid too if you go to a spiritist, 24:04 "because of the words of Samuel. 24:06 And there was no strength in him, 24:08 he had eaten no food all day or night. 24:10 So he's prostrate, he collapses. 24:13 He's overwhelmed.
