00:02 I'm John Carter in Moscow.
00:04 In Havana, Cuba.
00:07 Now in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine.
00:10 I'm John Carter in Petra.
00:13 Right here in Communist China.
00:16 Reporting from India.
00:18 Hi, I'm John Carter in the Solomon Islands.
00:21 I'm John Carter in Soweto.
00:23 From El Salvador.
00:26 I'm John Carter in Sydney, Australia.
00:29 Join us with questions and answers
00:32 with Pastor John Carter.
00:37 Welcome today to the Carter Report.
00:38 I'm John Carter.
00:40 And today we have a special session Q&A.
00:44 You folks send in your Bible questions.
00:47 And I by the grace of God, I answer them.
00:49 Then we have a great television studio
00:51 here in Southern California,
00:53 in beautiful Moorpark
00:55 next to my hometown of Thousand Oaks,
00:58 and the questions come in from the live audience
01:01 and also from around the world.
01:04 And we're going to put up the address
01:05 if you've got a Bible question, not a political question,
01:08 we're not into politics here.
01:11 We believe in Jesus,
01:13 and we belong to one party here.
01:15 I'm not afraid to tell people this,
01:17 I'm not a Democrat.
01:18 I'm an old time conservative.
01:21 I'm not a Republican, either.
01:23 I am an independent, and I'm independent for Jesus.
01:28 And I'm not going to ask any party to think for me.
01:31 I'm not going to ask any church
01:33 to think for me either my friend.
01:35 By the grace of God,
01:37 I am going to think God's thoughts after Him
01:40 and my mind is going to be captive
01:42 to the Word of God.
01:44 So here we go with your questions.
01:46 Luke 12:10.
01:48 What is the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit
01:51 that will not be forgiven?
01:52 Okay, we're gonna go through a lot of questions.
01:54 Come over here to Luke.
01:56 I'm sorry, I'm gonna go fast.
01:57 But you know, I got to get through this.
01:59 Luke 12:10.
02:01 I want to get through so I don't leave anybody out.
02:03 Luke 12:10.
02:05 Jesus says, "Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man,
02:10 it'll be forgiven him."
02:11 You can speak against Jesus.
02:13 And if you confess and forsake it,
02:15 God will forgive you.
02:16 "But to him who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit,
02:19 it will not be forgiven."
02:21 That's pretty, pretty solid stuff.
02:25 You can sin against Jesus, and you can be saved.
02:29 You can sin against people in the world, you can be saved.
02:33 You can commit any sin.
02:35 Jesus said, "All types of sins are going to be forgiven."
02:39 But if you sin against the Holy Spirit,
02:42 you won't be saved.
02:43 This is called the unpardonable sin.
02:46 How does this work?
02:48 The Holy Spirit
02:49 is the third person of the Godhead.
02:52 He is the active agent
02:57 in the redemption of the soul.
02:59 Say I come to a meeting like this,
03:01 I turn on a certain television program,
03:03 or else I'm reading the Holy Scriptures,
03:05 and a voice starts to speak to my heart.
03:09 And that voice convicts me of my sin.
03:14 That's the Holy Spirit.
03:16 The Holy Spirit
03:18 is the third person of the Godhead,
03:21 who leads me to Christ and to salvation.
03:25 Listen carefully,
03:27 because some of you folks here don't get this.
03:31 A lot of folks go to church, and they're really Pharisees,
03:35 because they've never been convicted
03:38 of their need of a Savior.
03:40 They're always criticizing other people.
03:42 Have you met people like this?
03:44 always got a story to tell you about other people.
03:49 They ought learn to listen to what the Spirit of God
03:50 has to say to them,
03:53 because the Holy Spirit comes and convicts me of sin.
03:58 You've heard of John Newton?
04:00 He was the man who wrote Amazing Grace,
04:02 the greatest hymn probably that's ever been written.
04:04 He was a slave ship captain, using a bit.
04:08 This man was involved in the selling of slaves,
04:12 selling of flesh and blood, human beings.
04:16 But he came under the influence of a mighty preacher,
04:19 he preaches, the Wesley brothers,
04:21 those men could preach,
04:23 they had the Spirit of God in their souls.
04:26 And as they preached the gospel, this man cried out,
04:29 "I am a great sinner, but Christ is a great Savior."
04:34 That's written on his tombstone.
04:36 Many of us here today,
04:37 even some of you folks sitting here,
04:39 in this studio in Moorpark,
04:41 maybe you've never had that experience
04:43 where you say, I'm a great sinner.
04:46 You know, I can tell you
04:47 all the other sinners in the church,
04:49 let say again the Pharisees.
04:51 We don't want to hear that.
04:53 I'm a great sinner, but Christ is a great Savior.
04:56 So he comes and talks to my heart,
04:58 and when he talks to my heart,
04:59 the first time I hear him like a trumpet sound.
05:05 It's like a train,
05:06 the southern Aurora in Australia,
05:08 roaring past your bedroom window,
05:11 wakes you up.
05:12 Yeah, I hear it.
05:15 Then I ought to do something about it.
05:17 But if I keep saying no to God,
05:19 and if I stifle the voice of the Holy Spirit,
05:23 and if I get calluses on my soul,
05:27 I will sin away the Holy Spirit,
05:29 and that is the unpardonable sin,
05:31 and I will lose all conviction and I will be lost,
05:35 and I'll be preaching and talking, and I won't care.
05:40 Pretty serious stuff this.
05:41 Come over here to Ephesians 4:30.
05:45 I've seen people under the mighty conviction
05:47 of the Holy Spirit of God.
05:48 I've seen tens of thousands,
05:50 hundreds of thousands come to Christ,
05:52 and I've seen people, especially religious people,
05:56 commit the unpardonable sin.
05:58 Ephesians 4:30, says,
06:02 "Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God,
06:05 by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption."
06:09 If I grieve the Holy Spirit,
06:11 I will come to the place
06:13 where I will have no conscience,
06:16 I can break God's laws,
06:18 and I am lost and I really don't care.
06:21 Like a man who kept the pet dove.
06:24 He kept putting his hand out
06:26 and putting a little bit of food for the dove.
06:29 And as the dove kept coming, he pulled his hand away,
06:32 dove would come, pull his hand away.
06:34 It's like the Holy Spirit.
06:36 Pull your hand away, keep pulling it away,
06:38 keep hardening your heart.
06:40 And the time came
06:41 when He put out his hand for one time,
06:43 and the dove said no and flew away.
06:48 And when that happens to a person,
06:51 he's committed the unpardonable sin.
06:53 No conscious, no shame, no guilt.
06:56 The Great American evangelist Dwight Moody
06:58 tells of a young man who attended his meetings
07:01 and ran out of the meeting saying, "Holy Ghost leave me."
07:05 Pretty dangerous.
07:07 This young man was knocked over by a horse and dray in Chicago.
07:12 Moody went along to his deathbed
07:14 and wanted to pray with him
07:16 and the young man said to him, "Mr. Moody,
07:19 I pray that the Holy Spirit would lead me and he has.
07:22 I am lost, I am damned, and I don't care."
07:27 I've met people like this.
07:29 Their hearts are as hard as anything.
07:31 I've met people in the church like this,
07:33 like the eagle on the ice flow at Niagara
07:38 feeding on bit of meat or something, some carrion.
07:43 And as he was feeding on it,
07:45 his talons sunk down into the ice.
07:49 That's like people feeding on the carrion.
07:53 And when he came to Niagara Falls were roaring.
07:58 He thought he just flexed his mighty wings and fly away.
08:02 When he tried to, he couldn't.
08:03 He was frozen in the ice.
08:05 There are people who go to church,
08:07 especially church people week after week,
08:11 and they're frozen in the ice.
08:13 Got all the talk in the world, they talk religious,
08:17 talk ad nauseum.
08:21 They know the problems in the church and in the world.
08:24 They don't know the problems in their own hearts.
08:27 And so the Holy Spirit is sent from God
08:29 to convict us of sin.
08:31 And when the Holy Spirit comes, we need to say, "Yes, God,
08:35 yes God, yes God and do it now."
08:38 That's why the Bible says do it now.
08:42 The devil says, "Don't say no."
08:44 The devil says, "Do it tomorrow.
08:46 Don't say no, do it tomorrow."
08:48 Because tomorrow never comes.
08:51 Question seven, going from last week,
08:54 last segment, vengeance and punishment,
08:58 is this God's strange act?
09:01 Isaiah 28:21, let me see if I can find it.
09:05 Isaiah
09:08 or as I say in Australia, Isaiah,
09:12 Isaiah 28:21,
09:17 Isaiah 28:21,
09:21 "For the Lord will rise up as in Mount Perazim,
09:25 he will be angry as in the valley of Gibeon,
09:30 that he may do his work, his awesome work,"
09:34 in the KJV it says,
09:35 "his strange work and bring to past his act,
09:38 his unusual, his strange act."
09:44 And then the person says, "Are they destroyed
09:46 by the brightness of His character
09:47 and perfect love?"
09:49 Well, if you turn to 2 Thessalonians 1:7-8
09:54 'cause I'm running out of time.
09:56 I'm going to read this off the screen.
10:00 "And to give you who are troubled rest with us
10:03 when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven
10:07 with His mighty angels,
10:10 in flaming fire taking vengeance..."
10:12 Oh, people like, "No, no, God doesn't take vengeance.
10:15 God hasn't got any wrath."
10:17 Those people just don't read the Bible.
10:19 "Taking vengeance on those who do not know God,
10:22 and on those who do not obey
10:24 the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ."
10:28 God comes as the judge.
10:31 He doesn't come to save the wicked.
10:36 They've had their opportunity.
10:39 And the Bible tells us they are destroyed,
10:41 the glory that destroys the wicked
10:44 immortalizes the saints.
10:46 I had a man in Los Angeles who came to my church for years
10:50 and never understood or appreciated one word
10:52 that came out of my mouth,
10:54 because he'd been brought up in the church,
10:56 but he was brain dead almost.
10:59 He would say, "Oh, I don't believe any of this.
11:02 My God is a teddy bear.
11:04 My God is a big loving teddy bear.
11:06 I want you to know this.
11:08 God is not a teddy bear.
11:11 He is the God of righteousness and holiness
11:13 that gave His Son to die for our sins.
11:18 Romans 1:18 is a text
11:21 that everybody ought to get into their heads,
11:23 especially those who follow the Southern California heresy
11:28 of the moral influence theory,
11:30 which is one of the biggest heresies
11:32 ever to come out of the pit of hell.
11:34 Very popular in this place.
11:36 For the wrath of God...
11:38 Oh, no, better take some scissors
11:40 and chop that out.
11:41 "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven
11:43 against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men,
11:46 who suppress the truth in unrighteousness."
11:49 The Bible talks about the wrath of God.
11:54 And there are hundreds of texts that talk about this.
11:58 This is not some petulant little God who gets cranky.
12:04 This is a mighty holy God who reacts against evil
12:08 and unrighteousness and sinners,
12:11 who spit in His face.
12:13 And when He comes back,
12:15 He comes back to take vengeance.
12:16 Now, I'm not gonna turn up the text,
12:18 but in Peter it says,
12:19 "For God did not spare the angels that sinned."
12:23 Oh, what do you man, He didn't know.
12:26 He cast out the angels."
12:28 And then it says, "If God didn't spare the angels,
12:31 and If he didn't spare those in the days of Noah,
12:35 but sent a flood."
12:37 People say, "No,
12:38 that all just happened by itself."
12:40 Hey, well, why do you talk like this?
12:41 Why don't you read the Bible?
12:44 And then it says,
12:45 "If he didn't spare the people in Sodom and Gomorrah."
12:49 This was the wrath of God.
12:51 And then in Romans Chapter 8, it says,
12:53 I heard HMS Richards preach a mighty sermon on this.
12:56 I preached this sermon many times,
12:58 people think it's a great sermon,
12:59 but I got it from HMS Richards.
13:01 God didn't spare the angels.
13:02 He didn't spare people in the flood.
13:05 He didn't spare the Sodomites.
13:07 He that spared not His own son.
13:11 You know why He didn't spare His own son?
13:13 Because His own Son
13:15 took the curse of sin upon Himself.
13:21 You want to know what hell is?
13:22 Look at the cross.
13:24 You want to see the wrath of God?
13:25 Look at the cross.
13:27 I do not believe in the moral influence theory.
13:29 I believe in the Gospel of God,
13:32 a holy God.
13:35 So He didn't spare His own Son
13:38 because His own Son took our sin upon Himself
13:42 and He tasted the wrath of God
13:44 that tells you how much He loves us,
13:46 and why we ought to run to Christ.
13:50 Next question, here it is.
13:52 Do the wicked, I think it is, let me see if I got it right.
13:55 Yeah, I think so.
13:57 Do the wicked...
13:58 We had these on little bits of paper,
13:59 but I wrote them down here so I wouldn't lose them.
14:03 Do the wicked agree with their judgment?
14:06 Well, you should ask the wicked.
14:08 Do the wicked...
14:11 Okay, let me give you an answer if I can,
14:12 Philippians 2:10 and 11.
14:16 And I'm going to read it off the screen
14:17 Philippians 2:10 and 11.
14:21 So I can move along.
14:23 "That at the name of Jesus
14:24 every knee should bow of those in heaven,
14:28 and those on earth, and those under the earth,
14:30 and that every tongue should confess
14:32 that Jesus Christ is Lord,
14:34 to the glory of God the Father."
14:37 Everybody's going to bow down.
14:39 The righteous are going to bow down,
14:41 the wicked are going to bow down,
14:43 and the devil is going to bow down,
14:45 and the evil angels are going to bow down,
14:46 and they're going to bow down because they know
14:49 that they're wrong and God is just.
14:52 Nobody's going to doubt the justice of God.
14:55 And Revelation 15:4 is a good text.
14:58 Revelation 15:4.
15:00 "Who shall not fear You, O Lord, and glorify your name?
15:04 For You alone are holy.
15:06 For all nations shall come and worship before You."
15:10 Now look at this.
15:12 "For your judgments have been manifested."
15:17 When this show is finished,
15:20 the great controversy between Christ and Satan.
15:24 People wonder, "Why doesn't God come?"
15:26 Because, in a sense, in Romans 3,
15:29 it says that God is on trial, says that.
15:33 Romans Chapter 3 says, "God is on trial."
15:37 And His own works will vindicate Him
15:41 as the works of Satan,
15:43 and sinners will condemn themselves.
15:46 That's why they can't go to heaven,
15:48 because they wouldn't want to be there.
15:51 And so I think there'll be no doubt about it.
15:53 Everybody will say, "Just and true are Your ways."
15:58 There'll be no people there
16:00 making silly smart little speeches.
16:03 Next question.
16:05 I'm trying to hear your take
16:06 on why other people beside our church
16:09 will be saved.
16:10 Well, imagine that.
16:13 And now let me go any further
16:15 I can't understand how a person in this church
16:18 could ever say that.
16:20 When they claim that Ellen White was a prophet
16:23 and she said,
16:24 "The vast majority of people who are true Christians
16:28 are found in the Roman Catholic Church
16:31 and the Protestant Churches."
16:34 Oh, no, we're the only ones.
16:37 Isn't it funny that we like to read those things
16:39 that make us feel more righteous?
16:41 That's the old sinner's self righteousness.
16:43 That's the worst of all sins.
16:46 And then I'll read the rest because I like it.
16:48 I really enjoy your ministry.
16:51 You tell it like it is, no sugarcoatings.
16:53 Oh, goodness, nobody's ever said that before.
16:56 Now look at Revelation 7:9, turn to this text.
17:00 I know I'm going fast, but you folks are smart.
17:03 Revelation chapter, we have a very great audience.
17:07 Revelation 7:14.
17:12 I said to him, Sir, have I got the right one?
17:15 No, Revelation 7:9, "After these things I looked,
17:19 and behold, a great multitude, lots of folks,
17:23 which no one could number, praise God,
17:26 of all nations, tribes, people and tongues,
17:28 standing before the throne and before the Lamb,
17:31 clothed with white robes,
17:32 with palm branches in their hands."
17:34 Here is a great multitude made up of white folks
17:37 and black folks and brown folks and yellow folks
17:39 and all sorts of folks.
17:41 And it's such a big company
17:43 that you can't even number them.
17:45 Now, who are these folks?
17:49 Let me see. Verse 14 tells us who they are.
17:52 I said to him, sir, you know, John asks who are these folks?
17:56 I... You know, so, he said to me,
17:59 these are the ones who came out of the great tribulation,
18:02 and washed their robes and made them white
18:05 in the blood of the Lamb.
18:07 Now, I'm not going to try to give
18:08 a exposition of everything in that text,
18:12 but it tells me that the people who are saved,
18:15 you're listening to me,
18:17 the people who are saved are not saved
18:19 because of their success in keeping the commandments.
18:25 Oh, no, no, no.
18:27 They're saved because of the grace of God,
18:31 and because they're washed in the blood of the Lamb.
18:35 That's the only way you can be saved.
18:38 And if a person truly comes to Christ in true faith,
18:42 he's washed in the blood of the Lamb,
18:44 and he becomes a part of God's big family.
18:48 I believe the word so much
18:51 of the great Protestant reformers.
18:53 It's a part of my theology.
18:54 It's a part of my ministry.
18:56 It's a part of my lifestyle.
18:58 A lot of people don't like it.
19:00 I get a lot of criticism,
19:01 I sometimes get some nasty letters.
19:03 I don't care.
19:04 I believe in what Luther taught and the Protestant reformers.
19:07 Sola Christus, only Christ.
19:11 Sola Scriptura, only scripture, Sola Gratia, only grace.
19:17 Sola Fide, only faith.
19:20 People say, "No, it's making it too simple."
19:22 No, it's making biblical.
19:24 When you start adding on to the Scripture
19:27 and the truth of the gospel,
19:29 you go into the devil's religion.
19:33 So I am saved by the blood of Jesus.
19:36 And when I come to Jesus,
19:38 I am right with God right now.
19:44 And as the lady said,
19:47 the vast majority are not found inside our church just as well.
19:52 Majority are found in the Roman Catholic Church
19:55 and the great Protestant Churches,
19:57 so let's not be critical of other people.
19:59 If we gonna be hard on anybody,
20:00 we ought to be hard on ourselves
20:02 and confess our sins.
20:04 Okay, here's the next question.
20:07 The Bible says that those who crucified Jesus
20:09 will resurrect to see Jesus come.
20:12 Will these people resurrect again after 1,000 years?
20:15 You know, you ask me such tough questions.
20:18 Revelation 1:7,
20:21 is the text that is quoted, so would you,
20:23 dear hearts and gentle people, turn to Revelation,
20:26 the apocalypse, the great revealing,
20:29 the last great book in the Bible,
20:32 which is a book on the blood of Christ
20:34 and on the wrath of God.
20:36 Revelation 1:7.
20:38 Revelation 1:7,
20:43 "Behold, He is coming with clouds,
20:46 and every eye shall see Him even those who pierced Him.
20:49 So the people who pierced Christ,
20:51 the high priest, the Roman soldiers,
20:53 Pilate and all of those wicked people
20:56 are going to be raised to see Jesus coming.
20:59 Oh goodness.
21:00 "And all the tribes of the earth
21:02 will mourn because of Him.
21:03 Even so, Amen."
21:07 Now, I don't have time to give an exegesis on this,
21:10 but the Bible teaches in Revelation Chapter 20,
21:15 that everybody, everybody outside of Christ
21:19 is going to be raised after the millennium.
21:23 This is our chart, magnum opus,
21:25 this is our crowning glory chart.
21:29 So when Jesus comes, it's the first resurrection,
21:32 the righteous are raised, Christ returns,
21:35 the translation of the saints.
21:37 The earth is depopulated during the millennium,
21:39 this whole talk on this, you can write in for it.
21:42 And then, the Bible says
21:44 the rest of the dead did not live again
21:45 until the thousand years were finished.
21:48 They come, so if you don't come up here,
21:50 you're gonna come up here.
21:51 I don't care who you are.
21:53 If you don't come up in the first,
21:55 you're going to come up in the second.
21:57 And the Bible says,
21:58 these wicked people are raised for their judgment,
22:03 the executive judgment and the fire falls.
22:08 And so I believe
22:09 that they'll be raised to see Christ come.
22:13 And then they'll be raised after the millennium.
22:17 All of this is pretty serious stuff.
22:19 These great prophecies
22:20 and these great truths are in the Bible,
22:22 so that we will wake out of our spiritual lethargy,
22:26 and we will run in faith and in haste to Christ.
22:31 That's why I do the work I do.
22:34 Next question.
22:35 What is the significance of all the emphasis on blood?
22:38 Is it a simple symbol of life?
22:41 Yes, the life is in the blood.
22:44 The Bible says, "The blood is the symbol of life."
22:47 Jesus shed His blood, He gave His life for us.
22:51 So when it says that Christ gave His blood,
22:55 it means that Christ gave His life
22:58 and He gave His life on the cross,
23:02 when He bore the wrath of God.
23:05 When all our sins were laid upon Him.
23:07 After the millennium, if you are not in Christ,
23:11 then you're going to bear your own sin
23:13 and you will taste hell.
23:15 That is the teaching of the Word of God.
23:19 Now, let me come to the last question
23:21 that we're going to deal with today
23:22 and I'll have to go 3,000 miles an hour.
23:25 I've heard that there is no eternal burning hell
23:28 with sinners being tortured forever.
23:30 Then what is the biblical meaning of death,
23:32 hell and Hades?
23:33 Listen fast.
23:35 Hell is a place of burning Gehenna.
23:38 Hades simply means the grave.
23:42 I want you to notice Jude Chapter 1,
23:46 there's only one chapter and verse 7.
23:48 Look at this.
23:49 "As Sodom and Gomorrah
23:51 and the cities around them in a similar manner to these,
23:55 having given themselves over to sexual immorality
23:59 and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example,
24:03 suffering the vengeance, look at it, of eternal fire."
24:08 Sodom and Gomorrah
24:11 suffered the vengeance of eternal fire.
24:14 I have been with my television crew
24:17 and with Beverley.
24:18 Beverley and I were about the first people
24:20 to go there.
24:21 We have felt the bits of human bone.
24:23 We have felt the ashes.
24:24 We did a TV show on this.
24:26 And the Bible says, they're not burning today.
24:31 But the fire that burned Sodom and Gomorrah was eternal fire,
24:37 eternal in its consequences
24:39 and it burned forever and ever.
24:43 The Bible says
24:44 that Jonah was in the belly of the whale
24:48 or the fish forever.
24:52 In the Book of Jonah, it says, he was there forever.
24:55 But then we're told in other places,
24:58 he was there for three days and for three nights,
25:02 listen to me.
25:04 And if you can get... God is not a terrorist.
25:07 Some people have a god who's a terrorist.
25:10 He tortures people.
25:11 He's going to work a miracle
25:13 and keep people alive for billions of years,
25:15 so he can torture them.
25:17 Ingersoll said, "If that's God,
25:19 I hate him because he's the devil."
25:22 I think people have grossly misunderstood these statements.
25:24 Even the great evangelist, Billy Graham,
25:26 who taught eternal hellfire in the last year said,
25:30 I can't believe it.
25:31 It's not taught in the Bible.
25:32 It's based upon a misunderstanding of the text.
25:36 So I believe what's going to happen
25:37 is that the wicked are going to be consumed with fire.
25:42 And then God is going to have a clean universe,
25:46 and it's going to be the home of God's people,
25:50 and the fire will go out.
25:55 That to me sounds like a loving and a reasonable
26:01 and a just God.
26:03 Now, if you've got more questions
26:06 and next time we're going to deal with those questions
26:08 'cause I didn't get through them all today,
26:11 but I will try next week.
26:12 Please write to me.
26:14 And until next time, thank you for tuning our way.
26:18 And may God bless you.
