00:38 Hello and welcome to Behold the Lamb Presents.
00:41 I'm your Chris Shelton, your host,
00:43 and I hope that you've tuned in to be blessed today
00:45 because if you're hungering
00:47 and thirsting for righteousness,
00:49 I know God will have a blessing for you.
00:52 Today, we're on program number eight out of 25.
00:56 We have a series of 25 Bible lessons
01:00 that we are doing
01:01 from this lovely Bible study booklet.
01:04 And it is entitled
01:05 "Sharing God's Love Makes You Happier,
01:08 What the Bible Says."
01:10 And that's what we're going to look at today.
01:12 And number eight deals
01:14 with gentle ways to ease depression.
01:18 Gentle ways to ease depression.
01:20 You know, in today's world, so many people are bombarded
01:24 because life is so up and down,
01:27 and many times they're so far down
01:30 that they feel hopeless and helpless.
01:32 But you know what,
01:34 as I was preparing for this lesson,
01:36 and I know as you study along with us,
01:38 and as you call in and get this study guide,
01:41 you're gonna find that God
01:42 has a prescription for depression.
01:45 You know, there's nothing more than the enemy would want
01:48 is for you to be down and feel out,
01:51 and hopeless and lost.
01:53 He wants to tear you apart from your Savior,
01:55 he wants to tear you apart from your family,
01:58 your loved ones, but God is there.
02:00 And He promises in His Word
02:03 that He will not only be there with us,
02:05 that He will never forsake us,
02:07 but He's gonna lift us up with His own hand.
02:10 And He also promises to take all of these sad situations
02:15 and turn them into something good
02:18 just for you, just for me.
02:20 So I hope that you'll stay tuned,
02:22 but first of all...
02:24 And I know you're gonna be blessed by this song,
02:25 it's entitled "Wonderful, Merciful Savior,"
02:28 and it's sung by Sister Emma McDonald
02:31 from the 3ABN Worship Center.
02:33 Let's go there first and then we'll come back
02:36 and hear what Pastor Kenny
02:38 has been given to share with us.
02:55 Wonderful, merciful Savior
03:02 Precious Redeemer and Friend
03:08 Who would have thought that a Lamb
03:13 Could rescue the souls of men
03:19 Oh, You rescue the souls of men
03:30 Counselor, Comforter, Keeper
03:36 Spirit we long to embrace
03:42 You offer hope when our hearts have
03:48 Hopelessly lost our way
03:53 Oh, we've hopelessly lost our way
04:00 You are the One that we praise
04:06 You are the One we adore
04:12 You give us healing and grace
04:17 Our hearts always hunger for
04:23 Oh, our hearts always hunger for
05:04 Almighty, infinite Father
05:10 Faithfully loving Your own
05:16 Here in our weakness You find us
05:22 Falling before Your throne
05:27 Oh, we're falling before Your throne
05:35 You are the One that we praise
05:41 You are the One we adore
05:47 You give us healing and grace
05:51 Our hearts always hunger for
05:57 Oh, our hearts always hunger for
06:05 You are the One that we praise
06:11 You are the One we adore
06:17 You give us healing and grace
06:21 Our hearts always hunger for
06:28 Oh, our hearts always hunger for
06:52 Thanks for joining us here at Behold the Lamb Ministries.
06:54 We appreciate you so very much, and again, we always, always
06:58 appreciate your cards, letters, phone calls.
07:00 And, you know, people call in, they're making orders
07:02 and they're doing all kind of things
07:04 and we love that contact.
07:05 They have lot of questions, and some of you do,
07:07 and I'm pretty slow about getting back.
07:09 So don't get discouraged,
07:10 you can always write or call again,
07:12 there's lot of things that are going on
07:13 in the calls of Christ,
07:14 which I'm very grateful and thankful for.
07:16 Today, this lesson, I know
07:18 as you already heard the introduction
07:20 that Sister Chris has given is very, very important.
07:23 In fact, it holds the world captive.
07:25 So we need to look at it
07:27 from the standpoint of the way God looks at it.
07:29 We're going to look at
07:31 general ways to deal with depression,
07:33 general ways to deal or ease depression,
07:37 and that's something that affects
07:38 a whole lot of people.
07:40 And I think it would be very, very important lesson
07:42 based upon God's Word
07:43 and things that are going on in the world.
07:45 But before we get into that,
07:47 we want to make sure we pray once again.
07:49 And I invite you, those of you at home,
07:51 those of you are here, wherever you can
07:52 if you just kneel with me as we pray together.
07:58 Most gracious heavenly Father,
07:59 again, we thank You for prayer time
08:02 that we can have with You,
08:03 we realize that it's very, very important
08:05 that we spend this time with You in prayer
08:07 and asking for guidance of the Holy Spirit
08:10 to illuminate these beautiful truths,
08:12 open our minds and our hearts of each one of us.
08:15 And, Lord, we pray Your special touch upon those
08:17 who may be having the issue
08:19 that we will be talking about today,
08:21 we may find that every one of us
08:22 at different times have experienced
08:24 these symptoms.
08:25 So, Lord, we know You have the answers,
08:27 bless us, we pray with that with clear hearts, clear minds,
08:30 forgiveness of sin today that we might hear from heaven.
08:32 In Jesus' name, we pray, and for His sake, amen.
08:38 Again, we always encourage you,
08:39 and make sure you have your Bibles,
08:41 and pencil, and paper, and, you know,
08:42 you're sitting at home and, you know,
08:43 at kind of ease there,
08:45 but don't miss anything here
08:46 because we'd be looking at God's Word,
08:49 and we can't afford to miss anything
08:51 because as we look at it,
08:52 it's going to give us help and encouragement.
08:54 In fact, there's going to be answers
08:55 that will be given to this,
08:57 maybe simple to some who've been following God,
08:59 but they're not so simple for many others
09:00 who never opened the pages of the Bible.
09:03 Here are the answers.
09:05 Here is the way that God has ordained
09:07 to help us through these
09:09 general ways to ease depression.
09:14 Like, maybe most of you, when we talk about depression,
09:17 probably most men who maybe go through a little depression,
09:20 they're in denial, number one.
09:22 We think that we don't experience certain things
09:26 because it's just for everybody else
09:27 but we never go through it.
09:29 But today, let's just keep our minds and our hearts open,
09:31 and let's just define a little bit
09:33 of what a depression really means
09:35 because just the word depression
09:37 doesn't sound real good, does it?
09:39 But we're going to look at it and see.
09:42 Notice this, it's a mood disorder.
09:44 When you look it up, you'll find that
09:46 depression is a mood disorder that causes severe symptoms.
09:52 So it's something that is real.
09:55 If you look up some...
09:57 There's dozens of synonyms, you can look up for depression.
10:01 And some of them, you'll...
10:03 These words you will understand them,
10:04 I heard them when I was growing up.
10:06 And one of them is said,
10:08 "Well, it sounds like you have the blahs.
10:11 Did anybody ever heard that?
10:12 We got the blahs for today.
10:15 Others say, you know,
10:17 dejection for depression, despondency,
10:23 sadness, loneliness, a heavy heart.
10:29 Here's one that I really hadn't heard before,
10:31 maybe some of you had, it's called,
10:33 right here is interesting, it's blue funk.
10:41 Mrs. Wallace, you know, some of us have been around
10:43 for a while,
10:44 you know, I've been around, I've never heard of blue funk.
10:46 But I've also...
10:48 I've heard this though that we've got the blues.
10:52 You got the blues.
10:54 So maybe that's part of it.
10:56 We're down in the dumps.
10:58 You know, it's such a persistent.
11:00 If we look at it, this is persistent.
11:03 When you're sad a lot, when you're anxious a lot,
11:07 you have a lot of empty feelings,
11:09 emotions, fatigue, decreased energy,
11:15 sometime, even leads to suicide.
11:18 So this is a heavy duty issue,
11:20 it's just not something that's made up.
11:23 It can affect our work, it can affect our sleep,
11:29 it can affect our concentration,
11:31 it can affect
11:33 our decision making part of the brain,
11:37 it affects what we eat,
11:39 and sometimes what we do not eat,
11:41 and how much.
11:43 And also we find that it affects our insecurity,
11:47 we begin to feel insecure.
11:51 Many, when they have some of these things,
11:54 and this is just a few of them,
11:56 go through our hearts and through our minds,
11:58 we're dealing with them maybe on a daily basis,
12:01 they come to the point where they seek and say,
12:03 "I'm going to seek professional help,
12:05 I need to get some help,
12:08 I need to be restored back maybe like I was before."
12:14 And sometimes there's good things
12:15 when we seek professional help,
12:18 one such thing is many of them say,
12:20 you know what, we need a lifestyle change.
12:24 Lifestyle change is not bad.
12:27 Many of us need maybe a lifestyle change
12:29 and that deals with many, many issues of life.
12:34 We have to recognize that in this study,
12:38 there are, listen,
12:40 tens of millions of people are affected every year.
12:45 Did you get that? Oh, yeah.
12:47 Tens of millions of people are affected every year
12:52 with depression, notice that.
12:54 Now listen, this is interesting,
12:56 more than 70% of these individuals,
13:01 you know, that's suffering from this condition,
13:04 they've never received any help at all.
13:07 They don't ask for it, they've never received any,
13:10 they don't go looking for it,
13:11 they're kind of afraid of what may be said about them.
13:15 Seventy percent of tens of millions.
13:19 So it's an interesting thing
13:21 that we're looking at here today.
13:22 One researcher said this,
13:25 you know, some people spend their whole lives
13:27 researching things,
13:29 they come up with a lot of information.
13:32 And it's not always bad, you know,
13:34 they're comparing a lot of different things.
13:36 One researcher says
13:37 this is what we just talked about,
13:40 makes depression so dangerous.
13:43 It makes it dangerous because we have the symptoms.
13:48 We're going through these issues,
13:50 and yet, there seems to be no help or we don't seek help.
13:56 Well, depression,
14:00 most people think when you do surveys
14:03 if you mention the word depression,
14:04 most people will say that's your own fault
14:08 that you're in depressed mood.
14:10 Well, that didn't help anybody, number one.
14:13 But most people think that it's your fault
14:17 because you have these symptoms.
14:20 You know, we have to think on...
14:21 That's your own fault.
14:23 Well, I want to think on it
14:24 as we do this study a little bit more,
14:26 could it be our fault or maybe it's not our fault,
14:28 maybe it's something else physical,
14:30 maybe it's something...
14:31 We need to look at the issues squarely and fairly,
14:34 and we'll certainly look from God's words.
14:37 Researchers do know this
14:39 and they've been researching this
14:40 for many, many years
14:42 that they've been studying part of the brain,
14:45 they're studying part of the brain
14:47 that deals with our mood and our physical symptoms.
14:52 And they can target this area of the brain
14:56 to see how each separate patient
15:00 would react with certain kind of help.
15:03 Kind of interesting, isn't it?
15:05 We're glad we have researchers in a lot of different areas,
15:07 aren't we?
15:09 And there are those who can do these things that will help us.
15:12 But here's what usually
15:14 some of the professional help goes to,
15:16 they're right now...
15:18 They're not all on the market yet,
15:21 but they're working on, they're developing
15:24 over 140 different medications
15:29 for depression.
15:32 They're in the process of developing.
15:33 Many of those are out there but there's just...
15:36 In other words, you've got a problem,
15:37 here's your pill.
15:40 Is that always the answer?
15:42 You know, it may help sometime,
15:43 so I'm not trying to discredit any form or fashion,
15:46 anything or anybody here.
15:48 But our focus is going to
15:49 certainly be on the Word of God,
15:51 certainly, we have to go to God's Word
15:53 but we're very grateful and thankful for doctors,
15:56 and different ones, and researchers,
15:57 and those who are trying to make us little more healthy.
16:02 But I thought that was very, very interesting here.
16:04 The main target, notice this, is to...
16:08 The researcher said,
16:09 the main target is to try to balance the brain.
16:14 They think that the brain
16:15 maybe has become out of balance.
16:18 It's the world that we live in maybe part of the issue
16:21 that makes our brains a little bit out of balance,
16:24 so things that we see that people say are normal
16:26 that are not normal.
16:28 Yeah. Amen.
16:29 And we become a little confused and we become concerned
16:32 because of all that's going on, we're concerned about our home,
16:36 we're concerned about our family,
16:37 we're concerned about our job,
16:39 we're concerned about crime, and killing, and rape,
16:42 things that are going on in our own backyard.
16:45 And so there's always this anxiety,
16:47 there's always these things, but somehow we have to deal,
16:50 we live in this world.
16:53 Of course, there's all kinds of,
16:56 you call that antidepressant therapies
16:59 that are out there.
17:01 Now, are they all good?
17:02 Well, probably not all good.
17:04 You know, does that fit your case
17:05 or someone else's case?
17:07 We just need to look and think about these
17:09 and certainly pray about it.
17:11 So I think we can say today that mental illness is what?
17:16 A serious thing.
17:18 Yes, it is.
17:19 Don't you believe it? It is very serious things.
17:23 Millions, millions upon millions
17:25 are looking for a cure.
17:28 Millions are looking for just some sign of hope,
17:32 there's hope out there because they lose all hope.
17:36 Others are screaming out, "I just need some help."
17:41 Is there no one to help,
17:42 is there no one that really cares?
17:45 Let's quickly go over some signs and symptoms.
17:49 And, you know, because two or three...
17:53 I think I'm gonna look at 10.
17:56 Three or four of them may fit you, they may fit me,
17:59 it doesn't mean that you have
18:00 because a lot of signs of symptoms,
18:02 if you're not careful, you read what all this problem
18:05 is over health problem and all of sudden I've got it.
18:08 You know anybody like that?
18:10 They read some of the symptoms of this thing, and they say,
18:13 "Huh, surely I must have it," and they may not.
18:15 But there are several things that may be overlapped.
18:17 So let's just look at some of these things.
18:20 Now this is according to the Diagnostic
18:23 and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders,
18:28 so they call themselves professionals,
18:30 and they've got a lot of things
18:33 beside their name and so on and so forth
18:35 that they say they're qualified.
18:37 And you might see that some of these things
18:39 might fit if you've ever been through any of these areas.
18:41 Number one, any prolonged sadness.
18:46 If you find someone that seems to be sad all the time
18:49 or all of a sudden they have just crying spells.
18:54 All they seem to do is just cry.
18:57 They can't seem to help it.
19:01 You see, the other average person may look and say,
19:03 "What in the world's wrong here?
19:04 They have nothing to be crying about."
19:06 But remember, we're not in their shoes,
19:08 we're not thinking the way that they are thinking.
19:12 Number two,
19:15 you might spot or you might realize
19:17 there has been some significant changes
19:20 in your appetite and sleep patterns,
19:24 some of the signs of depression.
19:27 Now we're talking about gently trying to deal with it,
19:29 but we have to kind of know some of the signs,
19:32 we have to know.
19:36 Maybe a change in your appetite
19:37 or maybe a change you can't sleep anymore,
19:39 you're, you know, 15 minutes over here,
19:41 you're an hour here,
19:43 and then you're in the chair for another
19:44 and you're over here, it may be other issues too,
19:47 but we're just saying something to think about.
19:48 Number three, irritability.
19:53 Easily irritated, angry, worried,
19:59 everything agitates you, anxiety,
20:04 and you don't know why.
20:09 Four, pessimism.
20:11 You ever heard anybody say they are pessimistic.
20:13 What does that really mean?
20:14 Pessimistic person.
20:18 Yeah, everything is negative,
20:20 everything that takes place in their life...
20:24 They forecast the worst outcome.
20:27 I knew it would happen.
20:30 I knew it would blow up in my face,
20:32 it never works for me, I knew it would fall through,
20:36 I knew I wouldn't get that job.
20:41 That's part of...
20:43 The mind is working and in difference.
20:48 Number five, there seems to be quite a severe loss of energy.
20:55 The energy is taken up on maybe other things,
21:00 worrying about other things that we need not think
21:02 or even worry about, loss of energy.
21:07 Number six, a feeling of guilt.
21:12 You're feeling guilty about something all the time,
21:16 you feel like you're along with that guilty,
21:19 you know, feeling guilty, guilt is...
21:21 Well, I'm not worth anything.
21:24 Nobody thinks I'm worth anything.
21:27 I'm worthless, I'm useless.
21:31 You know, that's kind of difficult we never should say
21:33 that about ourself
21:35 because if you're a child of God,
21:37 you're really worth something, aren't you?
21:38 Amen.
21:39 See, but some people don't know this,
21:41 and they feel worthless.
21:43 And if you've ever felt worthless,
21:45 you realize that can depress you
21:49 because you don't know which way to turn
21:51 or what to do.
21:55 Number seven, signs.
22:00 Notice, you're not able to concentrate like you used to.
22:04 You have a hard time concentrating,
22:06 you can't concentrate anymore.
22:08 And that means what?
22:10 If you can't concentrate,
22:11 then that means you can't really make good decisions.
22:16 And you're hopping maybe from one thing to another.
22:20 Number eight,
22:23 there's an inability to take pleasure
22:27 in those former things that you used to do
22:30 that made you happy,
22:31 you just can't seem to get along.
22:33 And a lot of times then that bottom line,
22:36 then you want to withdraw from social activities.
22:40 You withdraw from people, it's a sign.
22:44 Number nine, unexplained aches and pains.
22:51 Did you get it, unexplained, you can't explain it.
22:55 I ache here, I hurt here,
22:56 I'm hurt all over, and da-da-da.
22:58 And when you have all the test,
22:59 and they, there's nothing there.
23:03 Number 10,
23:05 it gets severe as it goes down
23:08 because number 10 is I'm having, you're having,
23:11 or someone is having, just going through this,
23:14 they're having thoughts,
23:16 reoccurring thoughts about dying, about death.
23:21 And then on the other side, they think about suicide.
23:26 Reoccurring thoughts about death and then suicide.
23:31 Now remember, there's a balance to every one of these.
23:36 I personally think it's okay to think about sometime
23:38 about death.
23:39 The Bible talks about death.
23:41 In the biblical term, we look at it, death,
23:43 we're here for a season and then we're gone,
23:45 and then what?
23:47 And then we die.
23:48 We need to know the truth about death,
23:50 but when it scares someone
23:52 and they're uncertain about it and they don't know what to do.
23:57 They're scared.
23:58 And then they say, you know,
24:00 I don't think I can face it anymore
24:01 and they think about taking their own life.
24:04 Depression is not much difference
24:06 whether you're young or whether you are older,
24:09 but different things can trigger it.
24:11 For instance, depression signs in young people
24:14 sometimes are some of the same things
24:15 that we just read in children and even teenagers,
24:19 many of them have unexplained aches and pains.
24:22 Their back hurts, their kidneys hurt,
24:24 this hurts, that hurts.
24:27 They're very irritable, they fly off the handle easily.
24:33 And they have the tendency always to withdraw
24:36 and want to kind of be by themself,
24:38 play by themself as they were the younger.
24:41 For older adults,
24:44 some things can trigger depression
24:47 and someone who's maybe never been depressed.
24:51 If they go through any kind of
24:53 a sudden big change in their life
24:56 when you get older, that can just upset everything.
25:01 And then if they have a illness that they never had,
25:05 it's frightening to an older person
25:07 and can bring depression.
25:09 Even if a person has to...
25:11 An older person has to move
25:13 from a house that you've been in
25:15 for many, many years,
25:17 and you have to move to a new place,
25:19 it's frightening, much more frightening
25:21 to an older person than it is to younger person.
25:25 It can bring on depression.
25:29 And an older person, for sure,
25:30 the death of loved ones can bring it on.
25:35 The National Institute of Mental Health
25:38 envisions this.
25:40 Now they're envisioning this, they're doing all the study,
25:43 they're working with people and for people,
25:45 they don't want them to go through
25:46 these type of things, and so they're working,
25:48 they envision a world
25:50 in which mental illnesses are prevented and cured.
25:56 They're thinking ahead, they're saying,
25:57 maybe the day will come
25:59 when these illnesses can be prevented
26:01 and even cured we won't have to deal
26:03 with them anymore.
26:06 I say today, doesn't that sound wonderful?
26:08 Oh, yeah.
26:09 All that sounds so wonderful but, you know, I believe this,
26:13 even with all their study and all that they offer
26:15 I believe that we must, if you want to eradicate,
26:18 if you want to cure, if you want to have a gentle,
26:21 you know, just a nice little change in your life,
26:25 you want to ease depression,
26:26 we cannot forget God and His Word,
26:29 it has to be incorporated in this.
26:32 And so I want to just
26:33 take a few moments today and look,
26:37 I'm gonna call them helpful hints,
26:39 some helpful hints to beat or to ease.
26:42 See?
26:44 It can definitely be beaten by the Word of God.
26:46 Are you still with me?
26:47 With God on your side it can be beaten,
26:49 we don't have to suffer, we don't have to go through it,
26:52 but you're going to have to do something,
26:54 I'm going to have to do something,
26:55 I'm going to have to do my part.
26:56 That's right.
26:58 Or it will never ever happen because God simply said, Jesus,
27:00 I stand at the door knock.
27:03 I know what you're going through,
27:04 I want to help you through it,
27:05 but unless you ask me and to help you, I can't do it.
27:09 And so it's a help, you know,
27:10 just get rid of it once and for all
27:12 to ease this thing.
27:14 Jot down Psalms 37.
27:16 I love Psalms 37:23-24.
27:20 Psalms 37:23-24.
27:25 Now here's the problem with a lot of people
27:27 who go through this and they know the Lord,
27:29 they understand the Bible somewhat,
27:31 they say, "It's too simple.
27:34 Well, that can't do it.
27:36 I've read these passages."
27:37 There's something missing.
27:39 If we say the Word of God can't do it,
27:42 the Holy Spirit can't do it,
27:43 Jesus is not powerful enough to do it,
27:46 there's something missing in their experience
27:48 and so we're asked by the grace of God
27:50 to get back into that to exercise faith,
27:53 faith in the Word of God.
27:55 Notice what Psalms 37:23-24 says.
28:00 The Bible is so clear on this.
28:02 Notice, "The steps of a good man..."
28:04 Did you get it?
28:05 Mankind, men and women.
28:07 The steps, the direction...
28:10 That steps means the direction that He's going,
28:12 the path that He's trotting, the way in which He is going.
28:16 "The steps of a good man are ordered..."
28:19 Ooh, I like that.
28:21 "Are ordered," that means they are established,
28:24 "by the Lord.
28:26 He delighteth in his," what, "his way."
28:29 Verse 24, "Though he fall..."
28:32 Check this out.
28:34 God says, I'm going to guide your steps,
28:35 but if you fall,
28:40 if you fail, if you fall short,
28:43 "He shall not be utterly cast down:
28:47 for the Lord upholdeth him with His hand."
28:51 You talk about good news, well, I fell short,
28:54 well, I fell down, well, I did wrong,
28:55 God said, look, you're not utterly down,
28:57 you don't have to stay down there.
28:59 Why?
29:00 Because He said, notice the key here,
29:01 for those who are fighting, those who want more help,
29:04 encouragement here, the steps of a good man...
29:07 So first of all, we have to be by the grace of God,
29:10 a good person because of who Jesus is.
29:12 Amen.
29:13 Other words, you have to accept Jesus, where?
29:16 Into your heart and your mind
29:17 and then you are considered in the Bible,
29:19 in this verse here, a good person, a good man,
29:22 and if you are, then God said I'm going to guide your steps.
29:25 Don't take any steps on your own,
29:27 you're going to get in trouble, let me guide your steps.
29:30 You're going to reach out and say,
29:31 "Oh, Lord, I'm going to make a step here,
29:32 but make sure it's the right step,
29:34 make sure it's in the right direction."
29:36 I'll guide them.
29:38 And if you happen to slip, He said,
29:40 "I'm going to be there for you."
29:42 You're not utterly cast down.
29:44 You know, what good news that is for us today.
29:46 Yes.
29:47 Because the Bible said we've all come short,
29:50 we've all sinned, we've come short,
29:52 we need extra help.
29:53 Verse 24 said, notice this, I'm going to look at you.
29:56 "Though he fall..."
29:57 "Though he fall..."
30:00 Now how would you fall?
30:01 Well, it could be very simple. It could be...
30:03 He failed because he made a wrong choice.
30:06 How many people in the Bible, don't start naming them,
30:09 that made a wrong choice at one time or the other?
30:11 Look, how many times in your own live,
30:13 my life, I made a wrong choice.
30:15 I could've made the right choice,
30:18 I could've went the right way.
30:20 I even knew the right way, but I chose.
30:27 Maybe made just wrong choice.
30:28 And sometimes it could be just disappointment.
30:32 Is anybody here...
30:33 Don't raise your hand,
30:34 but you've been so disappointed over something
30:37 that you just did something else
30:38 wrong all the way
30:39 'cause you're just so disappointing,
30:41 you just lost it.
30:44 Sometime a person may fold though he fall
30:47 because of misfortune.
30:50 You may lose your home, you may lose your car,
30:53 you may lose your family, the misfortune,
30:55 sometime we choose the wrong path,
30:57 a calamity to death,
31:01 and sometime it's just simply falling into sin.
31:05 Remember falling into sin,
31:06 falling into sin's a little different
31:08 than jumping into sin.
31:09 Somebody's not with me, I see right now.
31:14 There is a difference of jumping than falling.
31:20 Many people who go out to fun clear
31:22 for wherever it might be, some of these places,
31:24 you never intended to fall,
31:26 but you got a little too close to the edge.
31:29 But you never intended to fall
31:31 but your feet at that moment they slipped and out they went.
31:36 That's no excuse for sin.
31:38 But we have to look at what does the righteous man do.
31:42 God said, "I'm going to help the righteous man here."
31:45 Little depressed, little bit down and out,
31:47 the world's not treating you right,
31:49 you're thinking things are not going right,
31:50 you feel like you're worthless, there's nothing good,
31:52 why keep living, I might as well be dead,
31:55 this right here...
31:56 God said, "Though you fall,
31:57 though you still as it were you fell into sin..."
32:00 Here's what the righteous man does,
32:02 the evil man will not do it.
32:03 The righteous man will immediately, immediately,
32:06 when he's made a wrong choice
32:08 or that maybe he's fallen into sin,
32:10 he quickly goes back to God
32:12 and ask for forgiveness of that and he makes it right with God,
32:16 and that makes the difference when things are right with God,
32:19 that's where peace can come in.
32:23 see, the righteous man want to rectify his error.
32:28 Now let's just establish this, bad things,
32:33 and we're going to talk about few things here.
32:34 But bad things happen to good people.
32:39 I mean, we've heard all of our life,
32:40 but we have to remember this.
32:42 We can't be like Job and all is what,
32:44 what kind of message has he made,
32:45 that's why his life is this way,
32:47 because he's made all of these things.
32:48 No, even Job was righteous before God,
32:52 men were judgmental.
32:55 Bad things happen to good people.
33:00 You know, how I know that?
33:02 One passage, just quickly, many, many passages
33:04 but Psalms Chapter 34,
33:06 Psalms 34:19 and it's just not one time,
33:13 Sister Kai, this is going to happen
33:15 in your life.
33:16 There may be...
33:18 The Bible says here "Many are the," what?
33:21 "The afflictions of the righteous
33:25 but the Lord delivereth him
33:28 out of them all."
33:32 That's it.
33:34 That almost deserves a hand, doesn't it?
33:35 Somebody said mine.
33:36 Yet, many are the afflictions that were there,
33:39 you know, if you look at it in the Hebrew,
33:42 it said, that many are the hurts,
33:44 many are the troubles,
33:48 many are the grieves of the righteous.
33:51 You just say, yeah, but I'm righteous,
33:52 I'm following Jesus, why should I have to go?
33:54 God knows why,
33:57 He's purifying some character, isn't He?
34:00 We're going through these tests
34:01 and these trials but He said many.
34:04 So being a child of God simply put today does not mean
34:08 we are exempt from test and trials.
34:10 But I do know this,
34:13 I believe this as a child of God,
34:15 our suffering is less, is less than a nonbeliever.
34:21 Even though we go through the afflictions are many
34:22 and the hurt is still there.
34:24 There is something different about a child of God
34:28 because the evil, for instance,
34:29 the evil go through a lot of different things
34:31 because they're suffering many times,
34:34 the decisions they made for instance on intemperance,
34:39 they suffer in this life.
34:41 They suffer because they're living a life of crime,
34:45 you see there's a lot of things.
34:46 You're not living the life of crime,
34:47 you may not have to go through what they go through.
34:51 And many times they suffer for
34:52 because of just simple bad habits,
34:56 Ill effects in the home.
34:58 They go through these things,
34:59 so some of the rewards we would say of the righteous,
35:03 I like this rewards of the righteous
35:05 even in this life.
35:07 When you make right choices are enjoyed in this life.
35:11 Making right choices in this life,
35:13 you can enjoy certain things here.
35:15 Ain't that wonderful?
35:18 But if you're making wrong choices,
35:20 you're gonna suffer in a lot of different ways.
35:23 So may I say as we're studying this today
35:27 about easing depression,
35:29 we have a God that cares for us,
35:33 we have a God that's interested in our life,
35:35 every aspect of it,
35:38 and He wants to be involved in every aspect of it too.
35:41 That's how special that you are.
35:43 But a principle of scripture,
35:45 I think is very paramount
35:46 as you read from Genesis to Revelation.
35:50 It's simply that we just talked about
35:52 that the righteous are protected by God
35:56 in so many different ways, the righteous are, what?
36:00 Protected by God.
36:02 So see if we're going through all kind of issues,
36:04 maybe you forfeited that protection,
36:07 that strength, that closeness, that would develop
36:11 as our relationship develops together.
36:14 I'm thankful that we have a God again in heaven,
36:17 they'll send those angels to help us and to encourage us
36:20 and let you know that you are worth something.
36:24 You are worth something, you are worth regardless
36:27 how you feel about yourself, you're worth all of heaven,
36:30 you're worth the life of Jesus Christ.
36:33 Think about that.
36:34 How can you put a price on that?
36:37 Jesus came down.
36:39 New Testament quickly, Romans Chapter 5,
36:41 time's going by rather quickly.
36:43 Romans Chapter 5,
36:45 I'd like to read all the verses,
36:47 I can't do it, but if you will do it,
36:49 it will be a blessing to you.
36:51 I know that we'll get to the first
36:52 and maybe the last.
36:54 And Romans 5, read verses 1 and then 8.
36:58 Remember, we need to read them all
37:00 if time were permitting we could do that
37:02 'cause there are all so good.
37:04 Romans Chapter, what?
37:05 Five, good.
37:07 And read verse 1 right now. Ready?
37:10 It says, "Therefore being justified
37:12 by," what?
37:13 "By faith, we have peace with God
37:16 through our Lord Jesus Christ."
37:18 Do you see the promise that's there?
37:20 Do you see what is it?
37:21 Being what?
37:23 Being justified by faith, being made right,
37:25 getting your life right,
37:27 being covered by the blood of the Lamb,
37:29 having your sins forgiven is what it says right here,
37:32 then you have peace.
37:33 Many people don't have peace
37:35 and go through what they're going through
37:36 because they don't have that peace.
37:38 They've not been justified by the blood of the Lamb,
37:41 only those who've experienced it
37:43 can understand it and talk about it.
37:45 Oh, by the blood of the Lamb justified,
37:47 we have this peace that the world's looking for.
37:51 That's wonderful to realize.
37:53 Verse 8, just skip it on down, can't read them all.
37:55 Verse 8, the Bible said in Romans 5:8,
37:59 "But God commendeth His love toward us..."
38:02 Oh, I love this
38:04 "In that, while we were yet sinners,
38:07 Christ died for us."
38:10 He is showing us His love, didn't He?
38:13 He said I'm showing you my love, when you don't...
38:16 You said, you didn't love me,
38:18 when you didn't want to serve me,
38:19 when you was doing everything you possibly could against me,
38:22 I loved you and I went to Calvary for you.
38:25 That's awesome.
38:27 You can't get a friend to do that.
38:29 There's nobody in the world that won't do that.
38:31 Only Jesus will do that.
38:33 Think about it. We're justified with Him.
38:36 God commended His love while we were yet sinners,
38:39 Christ died for us.
38:41 How awesome that is.
38:43 Now what does that mean?
38:44 Well, we've read it,
38:46 we've talked about it a little bit,
38:47 but what does that really mean?
38:49 I found these little articles, letter 329A.
38:53 Letter 329A written in 1905, notice this.
38:58 I like it 'cause it kind of poses a question.
39:00 It begins, "If Christ gave his life to save sinners,
39:04 why shall I not take that blessing?"
39:07 God's offered me a blessing of eternal life,
39:10 shed His blood, paved the way, why shouldn't I take it?
39:14 See by not taking it, then we open ourselves
39:16 to the things of this world, and the depression,
39:18 and the anxiety, and the mess that's in this world.
39:23 When we take Christ in, He fights our battle for us,
39:26 He gives super human strength, and knowledge, and wisdom,
39:30 and victory that only God can give.
39:33 Man, this is what we needed in this life,
39:34 we can't do it on our own.
39:37 Notice, the article goes on "My faith...
39:40 Your faith, grasp it,
39:42 and thus my faith
39:44 is the substance of things hoped for,
39:47 and the evidence of things," what?
39:49 "Not seen or unseen..."
39:51 That's the faith chapter, Hebrews 11:1.
39:55 It's beautiful.
39:57 Notice this, what happens in.
39:58 The article goes on and said, "Thus resting and believing,
40:03 I have peace with God through the Lord Jesus Christ."
40:07 This is what we're looking at in the study.
40:09 We're looking for peace,
40:10 we're looking to be able to rest, we're looking...
40:13 And it simply says, we need to believe
40:15 in those things that He has said in His Word.
40:17 Believe, take them by faith,
40:19 grasp a hold of not what you see,
40:21 but grasp of those things that are unseen,
40:24 a heavenly things.
40:25 If you look at the world and things in this world,
40:27 man, you're going to lose hope, it's going to be discouraging.
40:31 Think about how discouraging it is
40:33 to cast your eyes on things of this world,
40:34 and try to base your life, and your decisions
40:36 upon the mess that's going on in this world today.
40:39 I need something higher,
40:40 I need something that's more sure,
40:42 I need something that's in the bank,
40:44 or you know what I'm talking about here.
40:45 I need something that I can count on,
40:47 and it's heavenly,
40:48 and I know that it's heavenly and I need that.
40:53 The righteous right there,
40:54 there is promise they'll have...
40:56 Trying to do right, you're going to have a peace,
40:58 nobody else understands.
40:59 How can you be so peaceful in the midst of a storm?
41:01 Now also take note of this.
41:03 The Bible is very clear.
41:04 The reason people go through
41:06 some of the things they go through
41:07 we maybe going through.
41:09 If we take our eyes off Christ,
41:11 Isaiah 58, it is in Isaiah 58:22.
41:15 The Bible said, "There is no peace,
41:18 saith the Lord to the wicked."
41:20 There is no, what? Peace.
41:22 There is no peace saith the Lord to the wicked.
41:26 The wicked have no peace, the wicked are shifty.
41:32 Hello?
41:35 They're always shifting their eyes around.
41:39 They're always looking around to see who's behind them,
41:43 who's beside of them, whose hands in their pocket.
41:47 They're shifty.
41:49 There is no peace.
41:51 They can't sleep unless they have iron bars,
41:53 you know, on their windows, and they're carrying something.
41:58 They don't have the peace that you have.
42:00 God's not directing their steps
42:02 because they don't want God to direct their steps.
42:08 Having this precious peace.
42:13 See, I know, Oh, Lord, have mercy.
42:16 I know I came into this world with nothing
42:19 and I know that I'm going to leave with nothing.
42:22 So I need not be crying and carrying on
42:24 because things look like, oh, you might lose something.
42:27 Remember, God will never take anything from you that you need
42:31 that's good for you.
42:33 And if we are true to Christ, we will not...
42:36 We have to leave this world with nothing,
42:38 we can't take anything with us.
42:41 You can be buried with whatever you have
42:43 in your money if you want,
42:44 it's not going to do you any good.
42:47 You might say it claimed to be high society,
42:52 that's not going to get you anywhere.
42:56 You heard that song
42:58 no matter how high in society they go,
43:00 no matter how much money they pay,
43:04 when they close their eyes in death,
43:07 they can only feel one grave.
43:10 Don't know if it's religious,
43:12 or of the world but those words are worth chewing on.
43:19 Having this peace with God
43:21 helps calm this anxiety of life,
43:26 it eases the pressure of everyday living.
43:29 I'm a believer, I don't think I have my heads up
43:32 in the clouds and say,
43:33 I just love Jesus and everything's going on.
43:35 God expects you to do your part.
43:37 You've got to be studying, and praying, and believing,
43:40 and claiming these promises
43:41 when it seems like there's no way it can work out.
43:43 You have to have faith to believe God said,
43:46 I'm His child, He's going to take care of me.
43:51 You realize a Spirit of Prophecy
43:52 talks about depression,
43:54 the Bible talks a lot about depression.
43:57 One of the... One of the men... Well, you know...
43:59 Elijah after his big meeting there on Mount Carmel,
44:06 after all that seen what God had done
44:08 in marvelous ways, God was present,
44:11 God was victorious, he left in a depression...
44:17 'Cause a woman threatened him,
44:19 I think it wasn't some like queen.
44:23 Isabelle coming after him.
44:25 Jezebel. Jezebel.
44:28 He was depressed. But you know what?
44:31 He didn't stay depressed, there's a difference.
44:35 You might slip into something for a moment
44:37 because of circumstances, but then He came out.
44:39 Read that in 1 Kings 18 and 19 about this what went on
44:45 and see if that's not what I'm telling you
44:46 the truth right now.
44:48 You can look it up in Spirit of Prophecy,
44:50 in Prophets and Kings,
44:52 page 161 through 166.
44:57 Once you listen carefully to this couple of lines here,
44:59 it's very...
45:01 If why this battle must be fought and it must be won.
45:06 The enemy's craft, that which he does,
45:11 which he tries to put in our way is most successful,
45:14 his work on me, maybe you,
45:17 is used mostly successfully
45:20 against those who are depressed.
45:28 He can work his workers most successful
45:32 on those whom are depressed.
45:37 Because when we are in that situation
45:40 and probably everyone has been at different times,
45:42 so I'm not trying to point a finger
45:43 at anything or anybody, we're looking for a way out,
45:45 we're looking to climb out.
45:48 We're looking for a way here that the enemy says
45:50 when you're that way,
45:52 you've taken your eyes off of Christ,
45:53 you're not claiming any promises of the Word,
45:56 you're not praying, you're not studying,
45:57 you're not going to services, you're not going to church,
45:59 you're not singing,
46:01 you're not doing anything right,
46:03 and how we going to get out of it?
46:05 We the enemy has us to where we cast off our only help.
46:11 Did you get it?
46:12 The only help that we have when we get depressed
46:15 and our mind becomes close, we cast off,
46:18 how many has fall into a well and there's no way out,
46:21 somebody throws you a rope,
46:22 takes the rope and throws aside,
46:23 say, I don't need it.
46:25 Well, give me that rope,
46:28 I don't even care who's holding the rope,
46:29 just give me the rope.
46:34 Don't let him be successful on me or you.
46:38 Don't let him be successful.
46:41 What can we do?
46:42 We did have nine minutes or so left,
46:44 I'm going to say this
46:45 don't anybody get depressed here.
46:50 You'll get to eat, everything will be fine.
46:52 But realize, this is something that's deadly
46:55 and millions will miss out on heaven
46:58 because they didn't understand the issues
47:01 that continue to go on the way they've been going.
47:04 There has to be a change, they will be happy,
47:06 heaven will be happy, the church will be happy,
47:08 the community will be happy, the home will be happy.
47:11 You see, when we come out of that,
47:14 and we live for Jesus.
47:15 So what can I do
47:17 if I've been buffeted by the old enemy,
47:19 and I've become discouraged, and I become depressed,
47:22 I become anxious.
47:25 Two Selected Messages,
47:27 page 242 and 243 makes this comment, notice it.
47:31 Notice, when the enemy has buffeted me,
47:33 and when he just trying most wore me out,
47:35 when I don't think I can take any more,
47:38 you know, what the council here is in Spirit of Prophecy,
47:40 it says right now, go right forward,
47:44 didn't say sit down, just go head along.
47:47 Go right forward.
47:49 "Go right along, singing,
47:53 making melody to God in your hearts,
47:56 even when depressed by sense of weight and sadness
47:59 light will come, and joy will be ours."
48:03 See, to me, that's exciting.
48:04 It will come.
48:06 You sing long enough, you pray long enough,
48:08 you praise long enough, I tell you, light will come,
48:12 and you will be eased up.
48:14 See, Paul knew about this, did he not?
48:17 Paul knew about afflictions,
48:19 probably more than most men will ever know besides Jesus.
48:23 Man, he knew about it.
48:25 You know, what he Paul said about afflictions?
48:27 2 Corinthians 4:17-18, quickly notice what he said.
48:32 He said, notice, this man had been beaten,
48:34 and shipwrecked, and then prison,
48:35 then treated as an outcast.
48:37 And where nobody seemed like loved him, and wanted him,
48:39 and he had a message from God
48:41 and notice what happened right here.
48:43 When he talked about affliction, he said,
48:45 "For our light affliction."
48:51 When I went through all that, somebody say,
48:52 what you went throughout, I'd keep them all day long.
48:56 You can't believe what happened,
48:58 you can't believe what I went through,
48:59 you can't believe this myth,
49:01 we need to be very careful about that
49:02 that we never uttered...
49:03 I'll talk about that in the moment if we have time.
49:06 But right now, Paul simply said all that he had been through,
49:09 think about this all he had been through,
49:11 he said, "Our light afflictions,
49:14 which is but for a moment..."
49:16 Right now, they seem like they're just going on and on,
49:18 day after day, but Paul said really in the scheme of right
49:21 eternal history of this world, it's very quick,
49:24 "For just a moment,
49:26 worketh for us a more exceeding and eternal weight of glory."
49:30 Verse 18, "While we look..."
49:32 Here we go again.
49:34 "While we look not at the things
49:36 which are seen..."
49:37 Those who are being depressed,
49:38 those who are tired and worn out,
49:40 don't look at the things that are present,
49:42 don't look at the situation,
49:43 don't look at the threatenings of this person and that person,
49:45 what somebody is going to do to you,
49:47 don't look at that, that's what Paul saying here.
49:49 "Not at the things that which are seen,
49:51 but at things which are not seen."
49:53 That means the heavenly.
49:55 Look at the promises of God,
49:56 this is 'cause we have to have faith,
49:59 we have to have faith.
50:00 "For the things..."
50:02 Notice, which he explains it here.
50:03 "For the things, which are seen are temporal,"
50:06 is what the Bible said,
50:07 "but the things that are not seen," what?
50:09 "They are eternal."
50:10 We need to be looking at eternal things.
50:13 Where are you headed today?
50:15 Where am I headed today?
50:18 We cannot live,
50:20 we cannot be moving about on feelings and emotions.
50:24 Feelings and faith were told over and over
50:27 are just as distant or distinct as the east is from the west,
50:33 that's how far faith and feelings are apart.
50:36 Faith is not dependent on feelings,
50:40 it never has been, it never will be.
50:42 So when we need help, what do we do?
50:44 We go to God in prayer.
50:46 I'm encouraging today.
50:47 If you need help, go to God in prayer.
50:49 And then get off of your knees,
50:50 and then you go live out that prayer.
50:53 This is where you put it into action.
50:56 I'm praying that God will help me,
50:57 get over depression,
50:59 but I'm gonna stay right here in this little midst,
51:00 I'll keep my head down, I'm not going to...
51:01 Listen, I feel for that, I understand that
51:04 'cause all of us have felt like that at times,
51:06 I've had my head down at times,
51:07 and you understand what you're talking about here.
51:10 But I found out that you lift your head,
51:12 your redemption draweth nigh.
51:13 You look up because Jesus is there,
51:16 you focus on the eternal,
51:17 not what's going on in the world today,
51:20 and God's going to help us.
51:23 And when you finish asking, what do you do?
51:25 Live them out,
51:27 live out those that prayer that you just prayed,
51:30 get up and go about it,
51:31 about your father's business and you watch how it change.
51:34 Dart a prayer into heaven, sing a song, go help somebody,
51:38 go walk the dog, go walk yourself,
51:41 do something to get out of what just put you
51:43 maybe in that mess
51:44 because that's one of God's plans.
51:47 Little exercise, eating right kind of...
51:48 Having right kind of diet food.
51:52 I'll say this quickly right here, every dark thought,
51:56 every selfish thought.
51:58 Think about this.
52:01 Every doubt must be guarded against,
52:05 any time the enemy wants you to come
52:07 and start doubting the promises of God's word,
52:09 doubting this, doubting that, these things, these doubts,
52:13 even though they might come in your mind,
52:15 they are never to be spoken out loud.
52:19 And look how often we do it.
52:21 God have mercy on us. Think about it.
52:23 We're never to be spoken out loud.
52:24 Be careful with these words
52:27 that will honor the powers of darkness.
52:34 But please, remember today.
52:38 Jesus tells, especially this is such a beautiful promise.
52:41 He said, when you're lonely,
52:43 when you feel a little depressed,
52:45 when you're in pain,
52:47 when the sorrow is knocking at your door,
52:49 there's doubt that's jumping all around,
52:51 just the famous, you say,
52:54 scriptures in the Word of God in John 14:18,
52:57 notice, Jesus says, simply says "I will not."
53:03 I will not, what?
53:04 "I will not leave you or forsake you."
53:08 Regardless of how far down, He said I will not.
53:11 He keeps His promises.
53:13 He will not, we leave Him.
53:17 We leave him there, he is right there at the door.
53:19 There is our help.
53:21 Man, if you're starving to death
53:22 and somebody comes up with a bag of groceries,
53:26 you don't throw the groceries that person out, do you?
53:28 Say come on in, your help is there, Jesus is there.
53:33 He said, "I'm not going to leave you,
53:34 I won't forsake you."
53:35 Jesus is the living Savior.
53:37 He's the one that fights the enemy for us,
53:40 He's the one that fights the fog of doubt
53:42 that comes in our mind from time to time.
53:45 He's the one that brings the sunshine.
53:48 There is sunshine in my soul today.
53:50 Why not praise Him,
53:52 even if you don't feel like it today,
53:53 why not praise Him.
53:55 Philippians 4:4 says,
53:56 "Rejoice in the Lord always and again I say rejoice."
54:01 Oh, it's so good.
54:03 If we serve and praise the risen Savior,
54:05 then why not think about this question
54:08 that asks us in Colossians 3:1.
54:12 "If ye then be risen with Christ..."
54:14 Are we risen with Christ?
54:16 Those of you who are depressed,
54:17 those of you're going through kind of mess right now,
54:19 you need to be raised up in Christ Jesus.
54:21 If you'd be risen with Christ,
54:23 "Seek those things which are," what?
54:25 "Are above, where Christ sitteth
54:27 on the right hand of God."
54:29 Man, that's good news to me.
54:32 This will bring us out of that depression.
54:34 Read Isaiah 41:10, we cannot do that,
54:37 we cannot do that because of our time.
54:39 Philippians 4:8, read that when you have time.
54:42 I'm telling you, it bring you peace
54:44 and bread and encouragement.
54:45 Now I tell you, it'll enlighten you,
54:47 you'll have a peace, you'll have an enjoyment.
54:49 Philippians 4:8, "Finally, brethren,
54:51 whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest,
54:54 whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure,"
54:57 Philippians 4:8 "Whatsoever things are," what?
55:00 "Lovely, whatsoever things are good report.
55:03 If there be any virtue, if there be any praise,"
55:07 notice this, "think on these things."
55:10 Oh, I'll tell you, praise God for these promises,
55:12 sure results of following God's plan are for us today.
55:16 His promises are sure we know that.
55:18 And in so doing,
55:20 we become more than conquerors through Jesus Christ.
55:22 Romans 8:37,
55:25 I'm going to pray quickly right now
55:26 for you those who made that decision
55:28 to come out of it right now.
55:29 Let's pray.
55:30 Merciful Father in heaven, we thank You for Your Word,

55:39 I thank you in Jesus' name, amen.
