00:02 We bought our property here actually in 76.
00:05 1976.
00:06 Our first year, we put in a road
00:10 and tried to clear the land somewhat.
00:13 I think Gospel Outreach really has a a commitment and a heart
00:18 to do the Gospel Commission to reach the world.
00:22 God strongly supports those
00:25 whose heart is totally his.
00:28 And when I went there in 1969,
00:31 there were no Nepali Seventh Day Adventists,
00:34 and I went back in 2008,
00:37 and all of a sudden there's 7000 Seventh Day Adventists. Wow.
00:41 And so I asked around, where did all these people come from?
00:44 Gospel Outreach.
00:47 Praise the Lord.
00:48 Now, Ultimate Mission has been training and equipping
00:50 Gospel Outreach worker wives to be health workers
00:53 in their communities for around ten years now.
00:56 Hi, I'm Julie. Welcome to Adventures
00:57 in Missions here at Gospel Outreach.
01:00 So when you go to church, how do you get to church?
01:02 Do you get in your nice
01:03 cushy car with air conditioning or heat?
01:06 Well, today we're going to be hearing
01:07 about a remote church
01:09 in the mountains of Nepal from Charles Schulz.
01:11 You'll want to stay tuned.
01:13 Gospel Outreach presents Adventures in Missions.
01:48 I'm getting greens
01:50 for the smoothies.
01:56 We bought our property here
01:58 actually in 76, 1976,
02:01 the first year we put in a road
02:05 and tried to clear the land somewhat best we could.
02:09 we look like we need to pick some tomatoes, Del.
02:12 Have to get our bucket.
02:17 It is a job to keep the weeds out.
02:19 As you know, if you've ever had a garden.
02:24 We put this in our smoothies
02:28 to keep Del healthy.
02:35 We are Del and Bonnie Orser
02:40 We have been going to India for 20 years,
02:42 but the last ten have been
02:44 with Gospel Outreach about half the time.
02:48 I've always loved
02:49 to share the blueberry story
02:53 because in a way it is really revealed a God
02:55 that we have learned to trust and believe in.
02:59 And I add it to the many experiences
03:01 we found in India as one of our Ebenezer's
03:06 when we first built our home and were
03:08 doing the landscaping around.
03:09 And I wanted to incorporate
03:11 a crop that we could use as an income for missions.
03:15 For some reason, blueberries came to my mind,
03:17 even though I never knew nothing about them.
03:20 And owning a business and being a part of Chamber of Commerce,
03:24 we found ourselves on a bus going north to a blueberry farm.
03:28 And when we got there, we realized that this man was
03:32 had a tall fence around his acreage to prevent the deer
03:35 and the elk and the bear from getting his berries.
03:37 And I went online and found that, yes,
03:41 they are a problem and eat the blueberries.
03:44 So I came home rather discouraged,
03:47 and then I remembered a promise of God
03:50 that says if we are faithful in our ties
03:54 and our offerings, the Lord will rebuke the devour.
03:57 And then he says, Trust me or try me now.
04:00 And as that, I will pour out a blessing
04:02 and you will not have room to receive
04:05 So immediately I
04:07 sent off for 200 bushes.
04:09 It was quite an investment for us, but
04:12 over the years we have not had one problem with Bear.
04:15 They've been here many times deer and elk,
04:18 and we give all the glory and credit to God.
04:22 And so the blueberry story is special to us
04:26 because it has been a method that we can share
04:30 with the berries for India and raising money for his cause.
04:34 We keep very accurate records,
04:36 making sure that every penny goes for
04:39 our God's work in India and Pakistan now.
04:42 Well, our first trip to India was in 2000.
04:46 So it's not easy.
04:47 It's easy to figure out 23 years
04:55 Del and I represent Gospel Outre
05:07 We are so excited because we just made a deal
05:10 with this bicycle shop for 13, bicycle for our fiber workers.
05:15 In north section. And you can hear
05:18 all the noise in the backround.
05:23 What a privilege it has been to work
05:25 with an organization that, you know,
05:28 all the proceeds go for the work very, very little.
05:32 What is it, like 3%?
05:33 I believe goes for overhead.
05:35 That's unheard of.
05:38 I think Gospel Outreach
05:39 really has a a commitment and a heart
05:43 to do the gospel commission, to reach the world.
05:48 We have been so personally blessed
05:50 by being part of Gospel Outreach
05:53 And every year
05:54 we look forward to going for the rally
05:56 and the camaraderie that we have together.
05:59 It has deepened our experience with Jesus, and we have met
06:04 so many wonderful people who are dedicated to Jesus.
06:09 Bonnie and I began to realize that as we look in the
06:15 mirror every morning, that we're getting
06:20 more wrinkles, older and older,
06:22 and we realized our need to
06:25 have a replacement
06:27 As we went to camp meeting a regional camp meeting.
06:30 I got the idea while we were there that why not
06:34 get up front and see if there would be anyone
06:36 that would like to take our place as
06:38 Directors for Gospel Outreach.
06:41 We'd like to see a couple come rather than just an individual.
06:44 So we appealed to the couples and told them what a blessing
06:47 it was for our marriage because we work together.
06:50 And actually two couples came forward
06:53 and one of them was from our own church.
06:57 Their names are
06:59 Pedro and Maria
07:02 and very
07:05 much a blessing to us to see how we have someone
07:07 I think is very qualified to take our position now.
07:12 Are you eating my blueberries?
07:13 I ate two.
07:17 that's good.
07:18 Our God blessed us as we have
07:21 always paid, tied and kept a Sabbath.
07:24 And there's
07:27 so many things that have really been true
07:30 that God strongly supports those whose heart is totally his.
07:46 We have been so blessed
07:47 over the years as we work together and
07:51 we don't always agree, but generally we do.
07:54 On where to go and what to do.
07:56 And I always win.
07:59 I had to throw that in.
08:25 Charles Schulz, it's always wonderful
08:26 to have you here
08:27 at Adventures in Missions and Go
08:29 and thank you for being here again.
08:31 Thank you for inviting me.
08:33 So Charles, I am intrigued with your hat this time.
08:36 So can you tell us a little bit about your Nepali hat?
08:39 Well, most Nepalis, if especially if they are
08:44 from old school,
08:45 they'll wear the Nepali
08:46 hat because it's kind of a nationalistic dress.
08:49 And so I had this one and I thought I'd put it on this one.
08:54 My head is usually too big and the others don't fit.
08:57 So honesty here at Adventures in Mission,
09:02 but it like,
09:03 swoops up like like the mountains of Nepal.
09:06 Yes, yes, yes.
09:07 And it's supposed to swoop up on the left side.
09:10 On the left side.
09:11 So anyway, I don't know which side this is, but anyway,
09:14 it's it's nice and, you know, to
09:17 to be typically Nepali, but we have to have this.
09:21 Well, I like it.
09:22 And you have a special pin on the front.
09:23 Tell me about that.
09:24 Well, the that's the symbol of Nepal, a kind of an icon.
09:29 And the to cook reads Kukri is a Nepali knife.
09:32 It's kind of like it's it's like a boomerang.
09:36 And but they don't throw it.
09:39 And that's what most people carry in their in their person.
09:44 And they can chop wood, They can chop brush.
09:48 If they're attacked by a bear, they can defend themselves.
09:51 This happened often, Charles.
09:54 As more and more people are coming
09:56 in, it's happening less and less.
09:58 But the chicory is about how long,
10:00 how long About like,
10:01 Yeah, yeah, I think I've seen them tucked into the waist, so.
10:05 Well, thank you.
10:06 Thank you. So a little Nepal fashion here.
10:08 Yes. Yeah. Yes.
10:10 So speaking of Nepal,
10:13 we're talking about a very special country near
10:15 and dear to your heart. Yes.
10:17 And yet not only is it dear to your heart,
10:20 but it's also it's because of the people.
10:22 Right, Charles? Amen.
10:24 And because why?
10:25 They need to know about the living God, right?
10:28 Yes. Yes.
10:29 And when I went there in 1969,
10:32 there were no Nepali Seventh Day Adventists.
10:35 And I went back in 2008
10:38 and all of a sudden there's 7000, Seventh Day Adventists Wow
10:42 And so I asked around, where did all these people come from?
10:45 Gospel Outreach, praise the Lord.
10:50 So that's why I'm happy to represent Gospel Outreach.
10:54 So but when we think about Nepal, you know,
10:56 we think
10:57 and we've said this here before, we think about obviously Mt.
10:59 Everest and the Himalayas and all of that.
11:02 So we think about that.
11:04 And yes, we have all of our mountaineer
11:06 stories and people who go up there,
11:08 but there are people who actually live
11:10 in these mountains, the people in Nepal,
11:13 as this map shows, basically they're in three levels, ground
11:19 level, which is adjacent to India.
11:22 And then you have the midsection,
11:24 which is the mountains from 2000 to 6000 feet.
11:28 And most of our church members live in that area.
11:31 And it's it's the most reasonable climate.
11:34 And then you have the super high
11:35 Himalayas with ten feet on up to 26,000.
11:39 Yeah.
11:40 So and, you know, I'm I'm very concerned
11:44 about following Revelation 14:6
11:49 the gospel has to go to
11:51 every nation kindred tongue and people and languages. Yes.
11:54 And there is 123 different languages in Nepal.
11:58 The lingua franca is Nepali, but there are people from
12:03 Niwas, muggers, ride, limbo.
12:08 It goes on and on and on.
12:09 And we just found a new people group really just now
12:14 in the last well, I'd say last few years.
12:18 And actually it was Kami with that business world radio
12:22 because the radio, you know, reach somebody
12:24 and then they called up Gospel Outreach.
12:26 Pastor Umesh And so she, she actually climbed up
12:31 because they didn't have a road.
12:32 But last March I went by car
12:36 and I was just fascinated that it's another remote
12:38 Seventh Day Adventist church.
12:40 So let me get this straight.
12:42 Did I hear you correctly?
12:43 There is a group of people that no one's known about,
12:46 but they heard on Adventist World Radio.
12:49 Yes, a presentation.
12:50 Yes. And our Gospel Outreach worker now has been contacted
12:54 and we've learned about a whole new people group.
12:56 oh hello, in 2023.
12:59 This is hilarious.
13:00 Well, it's it's... I love it.
13:02 It's the reality.
13:03 And you look at the map,
13:05 there's people all over that we haven't touched.
13:08 Isn't that something?
13:09 But say that again, 123 languages. Yes.
13:13 In this country.
13:14 Yes. Wow.
13:15 But this this country is about the size of Oregon.
13:18 If you. Yeah. Squeezed it up a little bit.
13:20 Yeah. Okay.
13:21 So we asked our Gospel Outreach
13:25 to show us where this village, this remote village, is.
13:28 And so
13:30 he jumped on his motorcycle and we followed him and our 4x4
13:35 and too much of kameez, delight.
13:38 You don't have to walk up from the riverbed up to the church.
13:42 You can now ride in a 4x4.
13:45 And so that was great.
13:46 So how many days did it take you?
13:48 no, 3 hours.
13:49 3 hours.
13:50 So, yeah, so but it's also remote.
13:53 When we finally got there, we didn't know where the church
13:56 was. But here again, our Gospel Outreach worker,
14:00 he showed us down the path and we could look down
14:04 and see some of the trails that Cami went on.
14:07 And we got to the church.
14:10 You know, it was
14:12 very simple and plain
14:14 and here is our Gospel Outreach
14:18 following the path to the church.
14:20 When we saw the church, it's the one in the middle with the
14:24 with the roof,
14:26 the tin roof, tin roof on the left.
14:28 Very important.
14:29 And the question is, what does this church need?
14:34 And, you know, we often ask this because
14:37 this church, it's an Adventist church
14:41 and it needs some one to look after it,
14:44 take care for it, be responsible for it.
14:47 Now, do they have any kind of electricity up here
14:50 or is it all wood burning everything for stoves?
14:54 So no electricity, no electricity, nothing.
14:57 And but, you know, this is this settlement is is important
15:01 because this is a chepang settlement
15:04 and everybody lives there
15:06 and there's some interest in Christianity.
15:09 And so it's so important,
15:12 I think, to have a Gospel Outrea
15:15 and not just the coordinator of the supervisor,
15:18 but someone especially.
15:20 But how long is this church been here, though, Charles?
15:23 I think three or four years.
15:25 Okay. Okay.
15:27 So this isn't the new people group.
15:29 This is this is a church
15:31 that's been there for a little bit.
15:32 Yes. Okay.
15:33 here's the church. Here's the church.
15:35 And, you know, you look at these people and very, very nice.
15:40 Again, the question is, what do these people need?
15:45 And you know what I see looking at this picture?
15:47 I see all these kids and I love that. Yes.
15:50 I love seeing all those kids coming and learning about Jesus.
15:53 So most of these people a Hindu background.
15:56 Absolutely. Okay.
15:58 But they're very enthusiastic.
16:01 And when we came to this church, we gave them some M&Ms,
16:05 because my neighbor works for Mars Candy in Cleveland,
16:09 Tennessee, and he gives me bags of M&Ms.
16:12 Nice.
16:12 Charles, you're
16:13 giving health food to the Nepali people of the world.
16:15 We we also gave them little bottles of mango drink.
16:19 And, you know, these
16:22 these children have never had any M&Ms
16:25 and they may not have ever had any chocolate.
16:28 Yeah. So it was just something.
16:30 Yeah. Yeah.
16:31 And we we brought clothing and also some toys.
16:35 So what they think about all of that,
16:37 you know, this is Christmas. Exactly.
16:40 This is Christmas. The foreigner shows up with the.
16:42 The tall foreigner.
16:44 Yeah. Yeah.
16:45 And, and you know, we keep asking how,
16:48 how can we help this group? And education,
16:53 you know, this is not
16:54 an Adventist school, but it's a, it's a government school.
16:58 And so I took an interest, I said
17:00 what could we do to help these girls?
17:02 And they said, $100
17:05 a year, we'll provide tuition,
17:08 their school uniform, their books in a noon meal
17:12 at in this village, in this village.
17:15 And so for one.
17:17 So we we've sponsored these two girls.
17:20 Now, I wish it could be an Adventist education,
17:23 but it's not because
17:24 to to go to an Adventist school, they'd have to go down 3 hours,
17:28 you know, and all of that sort of well, thankfully
17:29 they have the church there and the girls can go to church.
17:32 Yeah. wow.
17:33 But, you know,
17:35 we just were thinking, what can we do to help this church?
17:39 And I'm convinced that the greatest help
17:43 that we can give them is a Gospel Outreach worker.
17:47 And here we have Prolaud Chepang.
17:50 Everybody in that community.
17:52 Their last name is Chepang,
17:54 because that's their people group.
17:56 That's their their tribe.
17:58 That's their language.
17:59 And his he's very nice and
18:03 he already has,
18:05 you know, and in with the with the people, as you can see,
18:08 you can see some daylight underneath the the tin roof.
18:13 And so yeah.
18:13 you're inside the church here.
18:14 Yes, we're inside the church
18:16 that's been that's in the process of being cared for.
18:19 But you know,
18:21 it's not just enough to have a building,
18:24 It isn't enough to have people.
18:26 You have to have someone who looks after the people
18:30 and cares for them and visits them because of that.
18:34 And the Nepali people are are Nepali
18:38 Gospel Outreach workers are very good about visiting.
18:41 And then also the Gospel Outreac
18:44 the source for prayer.
18:46 And people have a problem.
18:48 They come and a prayer is offered, especially
18:53 when someone is possessed with with evil spirits.
18:58 And so they will come into the church.
19:01 Well, they're having church
19:02 and they all fall down and roll around.
19:05 And then the the deaconesses if it's a lady.
19:08 They will come and invite her to lie down.
19:12 And then they're all tensed up and
19:16 we pray and sing.
19:18 And after a while you can watch their hands relax,
19:22 and then they'll wake up and
19:25 very grateful to be delivered like that.
19:29 And it's it's an amazing thing.
19:33 So our Gospel Outreach workers are so,
19:36 so important and so necessary for the community.
19:40 He is the prayer source for the community many times.
19:45 And, you know, Charles, we have the same power here.
19:48 No matter where we are.
19:49 We have the Bible, we have the power of prayer,
19:52 and we have the living God with us. Yes.
19:54 So these stories that we hear,
19:57 you know, on the other side of the world and we're amazed
20:00 that we've got the same we have the same gifts from God,
20:03 you know, here today, right here where we sit. Yes.
20:06 And so we are tapped into that.
20:08 But yet you look at this village, there's no
20:10 a local pharmacy.
20:12 There is no local this there's no local that.
20:14 But our Gospel Outreach worker, he is he has God with him.
20:19 Yes. The power of prayer.
20:20 And I hope he has a Bible in his language.
20:23 Okay.
20:24 And also God Pods with the MP3
20:27 players
20:28 Yes. Holy language.
20:29 Yes the mega-voice voice because the church members,
20:33 they may or may not read.
20:36 And so this is an opportunity for them
20:39 to listen, to listen, hear the gospel.
20:42 And it's so important.
20:43 Faith building. Yeah.
20:45 But for so many of these people, though,
20:47 with this Hindu background
20:49 and here they are up in the mountains,
20:51 and then to have, you know, this dear brother of ours
20:54 sharing Jesus, I mean, it's all kind of new to them. Yes.
20:59 But they they recognize the
21:02 the power and the authority in Jesus name.
21:05 This is not just another religion.
21:08 This is a love relationship. Yeah.
21:11 This is a personal contact with the Christian God.
21:16 He is not up there in heaven, but this
21:18 this is someone that helps them with their individual problems
21:21 and they understand the power of Christ resurrection.
21:25 See, And you just said it to.
21:27 So in my devotion
21:28 today, it's the only God news that knows this.
21:30 But I was reading about the power of Jesus name.
21:34 Amen.
21:35 It is powerful. And we have to pray.
21:38 Bold prayers.
21:39 Yes, When we pray in Jesus name.
21:42 So may we pray for these dear
21:44 people in Nepal, in Jesus name, that He protects them
21:47 and that they will learn more about him. Amen.
21:50 Yeah, powerful.
21:51 So, Charles, as you continue to go back to this wonderful place
21:55 that's kind of second home to you,
21:58 what would you like to share here with a viewer
22:00 as they're listening
22:01 to hearing these stories and thinking, wow,
22:04 I don't know if I could ever go
22:05 to that place, but how can they get involved?
22:07 Well, they can get involved by supporting Gospel Outreach.
22:11 And we have 56 Bible workers.
22:15 And these Bible workers, these Gospel Outreach
22:18 workers are much more effective than I am.
22:21 If I would go there
22:23 and they understand the needs of the people
22:25 and they help the people, and I appreciate that so much.
22:30 And so you can help Nepal best
22:33 by supporting and contributing to Gospel Outreaches.
22:38 Absolutely.
22:39 And that is the model here at Gospel Outreach,
22:43 because, yes, you have gone as as a missionary to Nepal.
22:47 I have been a student missionary.
22:48 And and but to go and learn the language and do all of this,
22:53 it takes time. Yes.
22:55 And as we read in the good book,
22:57 we need to make
22:59 sure that we're using every every minute that we have.
23:01 So, again, Revelation 14 six
23:05 to every nation, tribe, language and people,
23:09 the eternal gospel, you know, that's what it's all about.
23:12 Well, Charles, thank you so much for being here.
23:13 And when you go back and and see these villagers
23:16 greet them in the powerful name of Jesus Christ.
23:20 Amen. Thank you. Thank you.
23:23 Today, I want to share with you about an exciting partnership
23:25 between Gospel Outreach
23:27 and an organization called Ultimate Mission.
23:29 Now, Ultimate Mission has been training
23:31 and equipping Gospel Outreach worker wives
23:33 to be health workers in their communities
23:35 for around ten years now.
23:37 What Gospel Outreach started realizing
23:39 is when a husband and wife team works together,
23:42 when they go to buy to into the communities,
23:45 into the highways and byways, telling people about Jesus
23:48 and showing the love of Jesus to to these people.
23:51 We have seen a massive impact.
23:54 Now, nine times out of ten, when we
23:56 sponsor a Gospel Outreach worker, be it a man or a woman,
24:00 the husband or wife always works together with them regardless
24:03 and spreading the gospel. They're a husband and wife team.
24:06 And so when Ultimate Mission is able to train and equip,
24:09 equip our Gospel Outreach worker wives to be health workers,
24:13 we have seen a massive impact in the communities, in areas
24:17 surrounding our Bible workers and where they live.
24:20 Because of this fact, Gospel Outreach has started
24:23 sponsoring health workers through Ultimate Mission.
24:26 So we have over 200 health workers.
24:29 That Gospel Outreach is now sponsoring
24:31 Ultimate Mission trains and equips
24:33 those women and Gospel Outreach is able to sponsor those women.
24:37 I can personally say that I have been a part of these trainings
24:40 that Ultimate Mission does with these health workers,
24:43 and it has been amazing to see this is not only a benefit
24:47 to the community,
24:48 this is a benefit
24:49 to these women as well, because in a country like India,
24:52 a woman is looked down upon a women.
24:54 A woman, unfortunately,
24:55 in that culture is oftentimes looked at as property.
24:59 And so for a woman to be able to go to a training
25:04 that allows them to help other people in this way.
25:09 I have seen women who were shy, who were reserved, turn
25:13 into a completely
25:14 different person within two or three years of working
25:17 as a Gospel Outreach health worker.
25:19 It is incredibly empowering for a woman to be able
25:23 to have a training like this and to be able to help others
25:27 and to work alongside their husbands.
25:29 These women are passionate about spreading the gospel
25:32 and helping others.
25:33 They are on fire for the Lord,
25:36 and when they can effectively
25:37 work side by side with their husbands and receive a stipend.
25:41 Well, that's just one of the most amazing feelings for them.
25:44 Now, as you may know, Gospel Out
25:47 Bible workers throughout the 1040 window.
25:49 Now, with just over 200 health workers
25:52 being sponsored through Gospel O
25:55 We have seen the difference when a husband and wife
25:58 team goes together, going two by two into the highways,
26:02 in the byways, sharing the hope and the love of Jesus.
26:05 This has been an incredibly effective program.
26:08 And so if you are inspired by this partnership
26:11 and you want to sponsor a Gospel Outreach wife
26:14 as a health worker,
26:16 I want to encourage you to go
26:17 to the Gospel Outreach website
26:19 goaim.org
26:21 You can go to the giving tab and there you can donate
26:25 and sponsor a health worker for $75 a month.
26:28 That's right.
26:29 For only $75 a month.
26:32 You can help support a health worker
26:35 working alongside her husband in the 1040 window.
26:39 Thank you for giving me this time.
26:40 And until next time, God bless you.
26:42 Get out there, get involved,
26:43 and I'll see you in the next episode.
26:46 And that was interesting, wasn't it?
26:48 Hearing about the remote church and the needs
26:50 and seeing all those kids up in the mountains in Nepal.
26:54 So we want to say thank you for your prayers
26:56 and your support of the Gospel O
27:00 And as you heard more people need to know about Jesus.
27:03 There are 123 languages, as Charles shared.
27:06 And all those people
27:07 need to hear about Jesus in their language.
